6301 Sound Is Faint

I bought a used 6301 from that big auction site and everything works on it and it's in good cosmetic shape. All I wanted was a phone with a decent camera & bluetooth, a bar style, with a key lay-out I liked. I love this phone for it's cosmetic appearance/style and it has all the features I need for my prepaid cell usage. However, I can barely hear anything on it when trying to listen to someone. I have excellent hearing (acute, actually) and I have all the volume settings up to max. I can barely hear it when it rings. I traded "up" from my 6010 which I love but which has neither bluetooth nor camera.

Is this common with that Nokia model or did I get a dud?

And if faint sound 'quality' is inherent to the 6301 and I wanted to go to another Nokia model (I will buy used if not available new), what Nokia model should I be looking at? I don't care about music, either listening or recording, I don't want a QWERTY keyboard, I don't use the phone to connect to the Internet, I don't need anything fancy.

All I want is a camera that's 2MP or better, bluetooth, voicemail, text messaging, keys that aren't too tiny, and excellent sound quality. I prefer the bar style.
