Hi Guys
Yesterday I built my first PC. There was no problems and everything ran smoothly for building my PC. Then I booted it up for first time and I heard my hard drive running as well as most other components but then the screen came up blank and I opened it up to Investigate. To my surprise The CPU Fan wasn't running I thought the motherboard wasn't working. But It couldn't be because it was working in the PC I took it from and I had the same power box. So I'm puzzled. If my motherboard or power box isn't working please tell me which one isn't so i can get a new one. Anyway If anyone has any Ideas on what I can do to fix the problem, It would be much appreciated.
Cheers Hasamoder

Hi, sounds like your PC fan isn't recieving power at all. a new PC fan would fix it i imagine unless its an underlying problem, Try buying a new Fan or cooler and then we can take it from there...
What PC do you have?
Processer?
Current Cooler.
We can suggest another fan cooler if you tell us what Processor you have etc
Regards

Sorry for not replying straight away. I had a busy week and didn't get chance to reply. Anyway You said to buy a new fan for my pc. Before I do so if my fan doesn't work would that stop the whole computer from running and cause it to go to a black screen. I thought that my computer would still turn on but would of over heated quickly. That's why surjested maybe that one of the wires on the power box might of burned out or the motherboard wasn't working. So before I spend 50 Bucks on a new fan. Can you ashore me that it's the fan that's the problem.
Thanks for replying before. :-)

The PC not working is not a result of a fan not working. It could well be that the motherboard is faulty in such a manner that it produces the two symptoms, but they are unrelated. The PC will at least power on without a working fan. It may potentially shut off after half an hour or so if it overheats, and it will probably give you a warning message in the BIOS that the fan isn't working, but it wouldn't have burnt anything out, there are deliberate safeguards to stop that.
It could of course, potentially be that there's no output from the 12V line on the power supply. That would mean the CPU wasn't powered (which in itself would give you the blank screen and stop the PC from working) and would probably also stop the fan from working. In 90%+ of cases where the PSU is at fault, however, it is usually either all the rails that don't work or the power activation doesn't work - in both cases the PC wouldn't power on at all.

Look I will get a motherboard from my local market and test if it works in the computer. If it does I know it's the old motherboard that's the problem, If it dosen't work I know it's the power box that's the problem. If anyone has a better way please tell me. Because I would rather not have to go to all that trouble.

As it will do, USBs can be powered off the standby rail on the PSU, which remains on even if the PC is off - this is how you are able to configure PCs to power on with a mouse click.

There's no harm in trying it, but make sure you buy it from somewhere where you can take it back just in case it isn't the problem.

Hi guys
Well it's been a while now like 3-4 weeks. Sorry I've been so long :-(. Anyway I got a new motherboard as well as a new processor. Long story short the guy wouldn't sell me the motherboard without the processor. But it doesn't matter I got it for $69. Not Bad! It was the motherboard that was the problem and it now works. But a new problem has arose. When I turn on my computer it goes straight to the bios setup and when ever I change any settings it doesn't save them. Any ideas anyone? The only thing I thought of was a Bios update. But I've had problems before and I'm scared of doing one. So I would rather stay away from that. :-{
As always any help would be Great.
