I just re-installed a version of windows xp pro that my uncle made using a streamline program so that it didnt come with the usual rubbish.

The thing is, i had my music on a slave drive & they were all tagged.
Now in Windows Explorer it only shows the name of the song & no artist/album info.

I tried changing the tags using Jet Audio, but when i click edit tag, the info is still there but doesnt show up in Windows Explorer.
I tried playing some songs on WMP 11 but theres still no tags.

Anyone know whats went wrong & how i can get the tags to show up in Explorer ?

Cheers

This type of information in generally stored in an .ini file. my gues would be the Thumbs.ini file but it depends what program you editied the tags with. I dot have jet audio so i cant test it. you should try and find / recover these files to thier directory.

Sorry to not be much help but im not very familiar with that software

The tags were edited within Windows ages ago but with this version of Windows they dont show up.

I only tried editing the tags with Jet Audio because they werent showing up, but as soon as i right click an mp3 file & select Jet Audio, then Edit Tag, its already tagged, just not showing up on Windows.

Ive tried googling this for ages with no success.

I tried a different version of Windows & they all showed up, but id rather keep this slimline version as it has SP3 & only takes about 10 minutes to install.

Is the detail pane showing up at all. To show this click the organise button then layout then details pane.

If this does not help please tell me which version of windows you were on and which one you use now.

I was using Windows XP Pro SP2 & Now im using Windows XP SP3.
My uncle used Nlite to integrate hotfixes, add drivers and themes & patches etc.

Only thing i can think of is that hes removed a component that Windows uses to recognise music tags or whatever.

Tried to Google this but with no luck :(

So it looks like the tags just are not set to show the instructions i gave you above were for vista below are the instructions for xp but i got them of a french version of xp so the translation might not be correct.

open windows explorer click view tab then show details (or something along those lines) in here ensure that the check boxes for the fields you want displayed are ticked like artist title and so on.

Tried that as well, but they're ticked.

Cant see what it could be, other than a file or driver Windows uses to read tags etc.

Yeah im not sure but if you think it is a file do a windows file repair.

Open CMD and type sfc /scannow

sfc is system file checker it does a similar job to chkdsk /f /R
