Hey guys,

need some help, i recently purchased a WD Network HDD about 2 months ago, and a while back it stopped working, the HDD works but the power supply stopped (don't exactly know how but yeah)

Basically i have a lot of stuff on there and am not prepared to give it back to WD for a new one yet, i need to extract all of my docs off of it and then wipe it and send it off (plus don't want to pay 100 quid to get my data back!)

So, i have put it in my internal desktop and wired it up etc... problem is the comp doesn't start due to lack of power... the WD has a built in LED light which takes up a lot of power, and it doesn't let anything else power up due to the amount it needs. I've tried putting it in an external icybox i ordered but that also didn't power up. I've been looking for a solution for 3 weeks and it's getting frustrating now! I'm sure there must be a way to get the HDD to power up with the computer, i'm just stuck on how to do it.

I'm tempted to order casing for it (network hdd casing) and shove it in their and see what it does, but the thing is i'm not sure if that will power up and i don't want to waste my money buying more stuff. So i really need someone to shed me some light and tell me how i can recover my data... here is the hdd info:

Are you sure it's not the drive at fault, not the power supply to the enclosure? If it shuts down your main PC's PSU due to overload, that's a serious power fault with the drive.
