Hi I have a black PSTwo slim SCPH 70001 (version 13 I think) and am having problems booting my games. I watched a youtube video on how to replace the lid and proceeded without a hitch. Turning on the PS2 it recognizes when the flip top is up or down. When I put the swap magic 3.6 dvd version disc in the drive and close the lid it boots to swap magic's main menu. I open the lid and put in an original import dvd disc and after I close the lid I wait 10 seconds and press "X". It says its an invalid PS2 disc. So I tried one of my original USA games (Final Fantasy X) and it says invalid PS2 disc. The Final Fantasy X game works just fine if I boot directly from the PS2 main menu (no surprise its not a back up or anything). So I tried the CD version to boot a PS2 CD game but it just hangs there after I tell it to boot.
I also have the PSX breaker and it just freezes after I try to load an ORIGINAL import (Japan) game or any other import game I try.
A few notes:
When I close the lid I can hear the disc spin (I also tested in the main menu; opening and closing it to make sure the system knows when its open and closed). I even tried pushing the square button for "special" boot. Also tried the magic swap CD version but I wasn't expecting it to work with DVD games. I had a couple of back ups (they worked on an old modded ps2 I used to have) but they didn't work either (for either CD or DVD version of magic swap).
I read somewhere that there are "tools" out there (like tool "c", "b", etc) but I don't know if they apply to my version of PSTwo. Do I have to do anything other than attach the flip top lid to the rest of the case (is there any tape or sensor that needs to be tripped or anything)??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated; I just bought the lid and swap magic about a week ago so I believe everything is current.
If you installed the flip top successfully, you should be able to start the PS2 with a disc in, then open the flip top, and the disc should still be spinning.
If it does not, then you have not installed correctly.
To play imports, the best way is to backup the import using imgburn, then burn it the image using imgburn at 4x speed if its a DVD image and 12-16x if its a CD image.
Make sure when using Swap Magic, that no matter what region the backup is, that you SELECT your own region of the PS2 when playing.
Then I guess I didn't install it correctly; I've been looking for specific information on my model 70001 (ver 13?) but I can't find anything so far. When I open the lid the disc stops spinning so I'm guessing there is a sensor that needs to be tripped somehow (tape?).
Also if the lid is open and the disc continues to spin (ie the PS2 "thinks" it is closed), how would I play multidisc games? Like Final Fantasy 7 using my PSX Breaker?
To play multi disc games usually has you save at the end of the first disc.
Then you insert the second disc the same way you load the first disc and it should load.
Thanks for the links! The video was the one I used to install the lid and everything fit correctly without a hitch (which is why I thought that the installation was successful... unfortunately as you know there's something else missing :(. At 6:10 into the video he says it doesn't work for the new silver ones. Although I didn't hear him say what model the silver one is, (mine is black) the silver maybe in fact version 13 (I might have read that not too sure).
Here's a tool tutorial but i think that's different the the flip top lid...
Well I figure out the problem... The flip top isn't made for mine I need to use Magic Switch 1,2 and 3. The magic switch (I'm sure you already know but if someone else doesn't) are pieces of plastic that go over sensors. There is a sensor in the back where the lid closes and one in front on the power switch (they both tell the ps2 the drive door is open. The third magic switch 3 prevents the disc brake from coming out.
Also you don't need to take apart a version 12 with magic switch so if you have to change the disk you can just remove magic switch 1 or 2 and it will say drive is open and you can put in disc 2 for final fantasy 7 for example and replace the switch and it'll work fine.
