Well ill start off saying. I'm very sorry if this is not where this should be posted, its the only thing i saw that related to anything to do with car sound systems. Now for my question.

Id like to buy a good sounding set of speakers and a bass for my truck, but to be honest im so lost its unreal. id like to try and keep it on the cheap range. and id like it to be a subwoffer along with a set of speakers to put in a decient size box, ill make the box to mount them.

IF anyone has a link to any sort of guide to setting up a sound system that will help me learn about it that will be greatly apricated. I HAVE in fact Googled it and for some reason it doesnt really explain it that well..im getting all sorts of Quadratic Formulas.

I'm a quick learner and good listener so any help would be considered priceless.

This is the place for car sterio questions.

The easiest way to start is to go to a store where you can listen to car sterios. You need to make sure the amp they use is the same size amp as yours. Your amp is probably more important than the speakers for base responce. Low base notes require massive amounts of power because of all the air that has to be moved. Just like accelleration of the car is pretty much dependent on horsepower. You do not want to buy some great speakers only to have them clip any time you play some good base. You can look into a booster amp.

Once you find a few speakers that sound best to you, look them up on the internet. Take note of base responce and watts. High watts and cost and a low base resonce will produce better base. If you buy from the internet you will save money.

i'm confused as to what type of setup you want. are you planning on building a box with subwoofers and mid/high range speakers? thats not really the best idea...subs work best in their own dedicated enclosure.

i recommend upgrading your stock door speakers first. alpine makes great 2 way or 3 ways door speakers. as far as subs go, JL Audio subs are really good, and not too expensive. you can easily build your own box for that. JL Audio subs are designed for small (1.0 cubic foot) sealed enclosures. As far as amps, I really like Sony. If you are planning on upgrading your head unit (stereo) nothing beats Alpine.

as mez mentioned first go to a store and listen for yourself and decide. once you've found the combination of components you like, search for them online. you usually can find cheaper prices online even after shipping costs.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:
