I have ordered over 600 DVD-R printable Taiyo Yuden 8x from meritline. I had less than 3 out of 600 that didn't burn correctly.

I recently bought 200 more. On the first spindle I had 3 or 4 bad, but my burner was dying and I replaced the burner.

On the last spindle, I started having a high amount of problems. I use imgburn exclusively with the TY. All discs failed trying to write the lead-in, and were rendered unusable after the failure. 1 would be good, then 2 bad, then 2 good, then 1 bad, etc. Total defective out of that spindle was 20.

I was beginning to think that the new drive was somehow defective, but then went on to write to 25 Ritek G06 consecutively with Clone DVD and no problem.

I purchased another 200 TY from meritline, and so far, this batch has been 100% perfect through the first 50.

I have contacted the seller and they will be replacing them.

Just an example that shows that even the "best" media can have a bad batch, so don't discount this if you encounter media problems.

didnt you know from reading the posts that all Yudens are perfect, all Memorex sux, if using DL discs use Verbatim else you are a blithering idiot to be thrown to the wolves LOL...In Cyberland its hard telling some people anything even if you have a book of facts in front of them. "IT EVEN HAPPENS" sounds like you are telling those people to open their mind... I seen something good today that really mocked forums and the personalities in them and your thread title reminded me of it. http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/villains-internet-forums.php

Good thread. LOL.

Well, this comes from the fact that over on the Wii forum some of us (myself included) are always touting "Verbatim and TY first", especially to the noobs who buy a pack of 5 of the cheapest and crappiest media they can find and then wonder why their burns don't read.

As I have said on that forum, I made my SSBB backup on a GQ DVD+R DL and it's still working fine.

I never meant to imply that TY (or any other brand) are perfect. However, if the 20% bad in 100 was the first batch of TYs I ever tried, I might be on here crying about how everyone lied to me about TY and they're really crappy media.

I agree that the Ty's and Verbs are the good stuff and I've used many generic and Sony brand TY's after having trouble with memorex years ago but like you said "IT EVEN HAPPENS"

On average, even the best media gives up to 5% error (bad discs). Rarely are all 100 discs in a 100-spindle completely perfect (passing all tests, working entirely -- not just "I burned them okay" as many might insist).

well the thing to remember is The best, better , good -take your pick media !!! of whatever brand or manufacturer is generally consistently of better quality than the lesser brands !!!!! That's why you'll order it over other brands even if or though it cost more ! ? But you should also remember To be sure that your firmware is current , your drive is working properly and or your computer as well if you are using a computer and not a duplicator or stand alone recorder ! But as the Lordsmurf said even the best of media can have a failure rate rate of 5% ! I don't know where he got his data but it sounds plausible to me ! but The good news is with the price of great to good media anyware from .35 to .18 cents each on sale ( Regular disc } you can afford a clinker every now and then !now if you are using specialized media - Lightscribe or DVD+R DL Disc exclusively then yes things get costly more quickly !!! Printables to will cost you more but are closer to the non-printables in price ! - while I've Occasionally gotten a bad disc here and there in various brands ! I consider myself fairly lucky in that most of my Failed disc were do to oprator error { I Messed Up !!!!} and not the medias fault ! What does it all mean ? Keep your equipment current and maintained properly, Use good media, don't make human Errors !!!- That should prevent a lot of problems ! other than that - Safe Diving & Happy Burning Everyone CiaO y'all !!!

What people don't seem to realise is after burning (with a high fail rate) their way through 250 tdk or memosux coasters their burner will have been damaged... especially with the OEM crap off the shelf manufacturers see fit to put in the cases these days. That's the hidden reason for using at least decent media to start with.

Yes, also READING poor media is more abusive to a drive than the burning. But even then, there is some truth to all this. :)

Drives easily die before discs will.

lordsmurf- yep!!! and Even using the best media , keeping your Burner Clean and keeping your Firmware and the other variables inline . Your drive will eventually Go the Way of all Flesh & Die !!!! But you do those things anyways Cause It's the Cowboy Way!!! - Luckily For me I have'nt had a Burner Die on me yet !! But Eventually I know they will!! But even a Great DVD burner is relatively inexpensive in comparison to other Computer Hardware ,Like $500.00 Video cards ect... so replacing a Burner isn't going to break most peoples Finances . Assuming you replace it with a Straight DVD burner and not a Blu-Ray Drive ! Which is still Somewhat more Expensive as is the Media so That may have to wait! On Bl;u-Ray I think the sticking point is More THe PLayer's cost and maybe the Media/Disc prices Holding them Back from greater adoption atleast for now ! People are Buying LCD-Tv's Because The Prices have comedown to their Financial Comfort Zone ! But They are'nt willing to spend $200.00 and more for a BLu-Ray player when the can get an Upconverting DVD Player for around $40.00 and Visually Upgrade their DVD's resolution to near that of Blu-ray !!! I Know I'm Comparing apples and oranges a little here and It's not Really the same thing exactly !! But it's close enough for many Non-Techie and even some Techie-type folks too !! - I'm not down on Blu-ray ! I plan to get a Player eventually But it's a Double edged sword For me If I get a Blu-ray Player I'm gonna want a Blu-ray Burner for My computer so that's a added expense too !!!The Blu-ray Burner May be a Birthday Or Xmas Gift for Moi !!! as Miss Piggy would say. But that will probably be a Black FRiday Purchase if and when it comes to pass !To all my AfterDawn Friends ,Old, New and those I've yet to meet Happy Burning , Safe Diving and Have a Great day Ciao!!!

Bluray still out of my budget bixtoxy! I'm just a poor boy!

My Wii has problems with my Ty-G03 watershields, but no problem with Ty G03 regular or any other dash format. This includes phillips and memosux.

It has no problem with Maxell hitachi full hub mattes in the plus flavor. I still have a stash of them and some sony ty LOL!

BTW: My original benq 1620 is still ripping and burning like it was from day 1. I can't destroy any of my benqs. Quality drives help immensely!!!

Burn on my long time buddy!
