Ive never had to update my bios before since everything always ran perfectly. But Im building my pc around an AMD X2 250(AM3 socket) and an ASUS M3A78-EM (which only supports AM2/AM2+ cpu's before the recent bios update)

If the current update is not already on the board when i purchase it, would the board still recognize the cpu? When would I apply the update and how?

thanks

It depends on the board and BIOS revision. Some will, some won't. With a board as modern as the M3A78-EM you should be alright, but I can't guarantee it.

But if its an older rev and cant support the AM3, How would I go abouts updating the bios? Im guess I wont be able to do it in "Asus update" since I would need to intall it along w/ the os.

What would be the easiest way?

You would need to put an older, compatible chip in to do it.

How about using "asus ez flash" in the bios setup menu.
Or would it even boot up to the setup menu?

Well that's the thing. If it works at all, it will boot windows and be fine apart from potentially some minor glitches. If it doesn't work, you won't even get to the BIOS.
