hi
i have aspire one on linux linpus lite v1.0.7e.
vga is intel 945gme express intergrated .
the problem is that on play back on pictures or video there is a picture distortion which looks like snow specs floating across the screen. it happens on pictures , video clips on my hard drive(120gb) and web camera. if i look at any web sites ie youtube there problem is not there.
i have done a system restore . still there. installed vlc fron linux still there. went to p c world . they want it for up to 3 weeks to fix it
Lines across the display are pretty common for me when doing something that pushes the graphics chip on my Eee. I think playing around with vsync settings can resolve that. Not sure about static like specs, might help to take a sample video that plays up on yours and test it on another identical machine to see if it is just yours or something else.
Linpus Lite is pants. I put up with it freezing a few times when i first bought the Acer, then wiped it and put XP Pro on there. Zero issues since then and i've now got UNR (Ubuntu Netbook Remix) on there as a dual boot. UNR is infinitely more stable than Linpus though it doesn't get used much as the Acer is a torrent machine via XP.
Basically my point is that the machines can run 100% stable, as long as you ditch that crappy Linpus Lite and it does look like your problem might not be a hardware issue. If more testing shows it to be a hardware issue, take it back to the shop and demand a replacement, just make sure you are able to replicate the problem once you're in the shop, that should twist their arm in replacing it.
might try to install UNR as suggested by a staff member of the shop but he said it could be a software issue and if it is i will have to pay for the repair which is not covered blah blah might have to get heavy
thanks
You can always put Linpus back on if you need to ~ http://www.linpus.com/download.php ie if the shop demands that you do. Either way, trying a.n.other operating system is a good idea, hopefully that's all the problem is as they're very nice machines, mine's on 24/7 for weeks/months at a time under Windows XP Pro, very stable little machines.
Don't take any nonsense from PC World, i've exchanged faulty items there many times, most times have had no issues but there's no reason why they shouldn't if it's a genuine fault.
Hope you got it sorted, keep us posted with your progress,..
