Hi all,

I have been searching through the Internet for hours and hours trying to find a solution for a problem i'm having and thought someone here might have a solution.

I am trying to burn an xbox360 backup file (.dvd and iso) to disk and when using either imgburn or cloneCD the burn will freeze at a random time, I have had a range from 9% to 55%, have tried 4 disks with no luck so far.

Gear is as follows:
Drive: Sony AW-G170A DVD RW Dual Layer Burner
Media: Imation DVD +r DL
Files: Iso with .dvd file

Comp specs are Q6600, 8800GT, 1GB ram.

At first, when the first disk failed I thought my drive might not be a dual layer burner, but in CloneCD it says it is indeed a Sony AW-G170A, and according to:

http://www.techtree.com/techtree/jsp/model.jsp?model_id=53845
and
http://www.hardware.info/en-US/articles/...Dwriter_review/

It's Dual layer burning supported?

I have made sure nothing interrupts the PC while burning, I turned off the screensaver and closed all other programs but it still always fails at different points.

I get no error messages or log entries, my PC simply freezes but my dvd drive sounds like it's still going hard, I have to turn off my PC via the power button and reboot.

I have tried it with two separate game backups and still have the same problem, I run the iso's through abgx360 first and both check out fine, and I am selecting the .dvd file to burn.

Hopefully this is enough information, if not let me know.

Regards,
Ben.

Ok, I have downloaded what seems to be the newest firmware I can find and will try that tomorrow morning if there are no other ideas (never updated firmware before)

Also just to add, I just found this thread:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/750745

this is the exact same problem I am having it seems, but it looks like no solution was found there :(

Right, Tried to update the dvd drive firmware today using http://www.firmwarehq.com/Sony/AW-G170A/files.html this.

It seemed to work great, said it upgraded from 1.74 to 1.75, asked me to reboot, now windows wont finish loading if the dvd drive is connected, it just sits there loading indefinitely, but boots up fine without it.

So i'm trying to fix that before anything else now I guess.

In the meantime I have put the drive in a spare computer and going to try burning a disk from there, though I doubt I will have much luck.

Also re- the disks, I realise they might not be the greatest disks around but a friend of mine has the same ones (same batch) and burned many games with a 100% success rate.
