I am making successful backups after a couple of weeks of trial and error. It seems that my process is taking longer than many have indicated it should.

Lets assume for the sake of the question I am using Decrypter and storing 7GB movie to HD. Then I am using DVD X Copy Platinum RF to burn the movie to 2 discs -- split in the middle.

With Pentium 4 2.0 and 512 DDR it is taking about 1 Hour to Decrypt and then almost an hour for each disc burned. Total almost 3 Hours for this example. Seems slow.

When using shrink and Nero on the same decrypted file I choose to run a burn speed test and it says it has to burn at 1X -- something to do with the source file.

My Plextor 708A brags of faster burning speeds. What is the formula for FAST quailty backups?

Thanks.

What brand of media are you using?
When was the last time you defragged your hard drive?
How much free space is on your hard drive?

When I first started I was seeing burn time of 1 to 2 hours. Some even as long as 3 hours. Once I switched to Ritek 4X and Prodisc 4X media, defragged my hard drive (which I now do weekly) and cleared out some of the junk files on my hard drive my computer not only started running faster my burn times decreased too. It now takes only 22 minutes (on average) from start to finish. My best time (The Lost Boys) is 9 minutes 12 seconds.

Yes, I know I am a smart ass!

hi all

NERO v5 !!!

i get for burning to discs about 14 mins! on full 4.36gig! pioneer 106

this is to show in nero the actual real time write speed to see what your drives actually run at!

1, run regedit

2, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/ahead/Nero - Burning Rom/Recorder

3, then on ShowSingleRecordSpeed change the value from "0" to "1"

VIOLA!

thx all.......
