Which tool to check MPEG-2 for errors and compatibility

Hello all,

I'm looking for a tool that displays and hopefully fixes all reasonable errors in MPEG-2 streams.

The source material I have is MPEG-2 from HDD video recorder (VRO file) or TV card in my PC. Very often any MPEG encoders I'm using crash on these MPEG streams even if MPEG-VCR does not complain about it or fixed errors already in the stream.

Is there any other tool that can fix errors and display a detailed list of any errors in MPEG-2 streams?

Maybe VCDGear (free) will work. It has an mpeg->mpeg option along with a 'Fix MPEG errors' choice.
