I was wundrin what's the use of buying a soundcard if one could just use a good headset? What's better when you use a soundcard?

Well.... To use a headset you need somewhere for it to plug in... Thus you still need a Soundcard :D

So either way, if you want sound, you need a sound card :D

Of course if a simple onboard rig is good enough for you then you dont really need one of them fancy soundcard setups :)

Well, mostly I game with headsets, and the sound is onboard. I think the quality is ok, but would it make a lot of difference if I would use a special soundcard?

I suspected that was what you were dealing with (onboard sound); if you are gaming then I would reccomend you get yourself an actual soundcard (unless its the Soundstorm onboard sound that you've got, courtesy of the nForce2): the soundcard's task is to alleviate sound processing duties off the CPU to minimize the hit to framerates (if you are concerned about video performance) and to also provide fancy effects and surround capability (if you are concerned about audio immersion)

:)

Then you dont really need to upg to a 'real' soundcard :) ... course if you want to, it will be a better gaming experience :)
