It seems that most DVD players 'assume' that DVD±R & ±RW media should follow DVD-Video specs and contain a movie.

On top of it putting MP3 on a DVD disk may not make much sense, since as most players will recognize only first 255 entries anyway ~ which is roughly the capacity of CD-R.

Life is what happens to you while you're out doing something else...

Most DVD players made more than a year ago won't read an MP3 DVD and many newer ones won't either. Basically, they didn't consider that people would do this so the players don't even look for them when the media type is a DVD. Keep in mind that until recently DVD burners and recordable DVDs weren't cheap enough for most people to buy them. I bought my first burner in November of 2002 because the one I had been wanting was on sale for $300 with $60 worth of rebates. That was also the year Ritek DVD-Rs got down to around $1 each, but of course the average consumer is still more likely to pay $1.50-$3 each for them.

Many newer players will play MP3 DVDs. I don't know what percentage, but it's getting pretty common.

If you have a modded PS2 it will play as many MP3's as you can fit on a DVD. Unfortunatly the homebrew media player for it is not the greatest.. But it does play them..
