I have a video file that I need to convert to quicktime to play. Right now it won't play in anything. What software will convert a file to quicktime?

What type of file is it?

Quicktime Pro can import and export many file types.

Here is a list of file types that Quicktime Pro can import and export.

Is there a way to do it without paying for quicktime pro? I am not sure what file type it is? How do I find out?

If the file has the correct extension and will not play then it is probably a corrupt file.

You still haven't stated what file extension it has(.AVI, .mpg, .ogm, .mkv, .rmvb, .mp4). Try analyzing the file with G-spot( http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html ) and find out which 4cc it uses(if any).
