Hello all, I just made a backup copy of my ddr extreme game for playstation 2. It's a japanese import, 60 bucks for the game, hence i want a backup of it.

Anyway, i used nero to make the image, and burned it on a fugifilm dvd+r at 2x speed.

Heres the issue... (I am using a V8 fliptop BTW)
It works, BUT!
It boots up REALLY SLOW from after the flip top screen
When its in the game, it takes about 5 more seconds (than my original) to go from menu to menu
There is no background music like there is on my original game
If your familiar with DDR games, There is no song selection preview.

I am afraid to keep using this because I don't know if it is possibly harming the ps2 laser.

Is this normal?
Is it bad to use this copy?
Is it a bad burn?
Is it the type of media I used? (fugi film DVD+R)

Thank you all!!!

Okay... have you ever burned another game that plays on your PS2 with those discs using the same method that you burned DDR? It could be your +r media, but I doubt it. What program did you use to burn the game? HOpefully I'll be on later tonight when you reply so I can answer you...

Nope, this is the first game I have burned.
I used Nero to burn the image

My main concern is if I play it, will it ruin my ps2 laser? at some points, (well, just once) I heard an audio that wasn't supposed to be at the spot. Does this mean the laser is moving from different points in the disk?

Any help/comments is welcome =)

I'm not sure what yor problem is. Did you do a 1 for 1 copy, or save the image, then burn it? If you didn't do a 1:1 copy, you could try that and see if it helps, but I don't believe that that is the problem. It may be a problem in the PAL to NTSC burn, but I don't have any experience in those areas. As for your laser, I don't know if it is skipping around, or if it just can't read the game correctly. Does the music still play correctly, or is it totally messed up? I don't really know what to tell you though. Your laser shouldn't get messed up, but I can't really tell you if it will, because I don't know what the exact problem is.

I saved the image, then burned. The image was about 1.2 gigs (does that see, right?)

Ok, I just tried it again, this time it seemed a little more screwy than last time. More random audio / audio in places where they shouldnt be. High speed voices! (like the announcers voice was playing in fast motion)

I will try it again with a memorex disk, I will also use a different process (theres a lot out there!)

I will let you know if i have luck with it, so far I made two DVD+R Coasters =(

So what do these symptoms lead to?
bad burning, bad media, bad procss. ETC

Thanks again!

best guess sounds like your ps2 is struggling to read your game backup would suggest that you try either a different brand of media or if you have the capability of burning dvd-r discs then try backing up to one of those
