I used DVD Shrink v3.1.7 to trancode a DVD-D 9 movie to 2 folders in the hard drive (i.e. The .VOB and .IFO files are saved in 2 folders : AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS on the hard-drive) . I then just copied these 2 folders onto the DVD-R , using Cheetah DVD Burner v1.20 . I can view this DVD on the DVD drive on my PC but the stand-alone DVD player could not read it (i.e. I could not view the DVD on TV ) . Please explain why this problem occurred ? Do I need a burner program that can handle movies and pictures ? And Data DVD burner can not create movie DVD ? Thanks,

Hi,

There could be a couple of reasons your disc isn't playing in your standalone. One being that your standalone doesn't like to play burned media. Here's a link to see what your player will/won't play:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

Another reason could be that the media you're using isn't up to par. Quality media such as Ritek G04 or Verbatim Metal AZO are some of the most compatible media available. What have you been using?

I've heard of Cheetah, but have never used it so I can't say whether that's a factor or not.

Nephilim : Thanks for your kind comments.

_The DVD player is O.K. as it can play all the DVDs I burnt with Nero and CopyToDVD (after being ripped and trancoded by DVD Shrink).

_The DVDs are O.K. ... I burnt around 175 DVDs with the same brand with Sony DRU 510A sofar... No problem at all.

I suspect the Cheetah DVD Burner 1.20 ..But I need confirmation on this point...

With that kind of success I'd be inclined to think it's something to do with Cheeteh since it's the only differing component of your process, but again I've no experience with it :(

One point with using Shrink. You should save all the files into one folder. Infact I load all the ripped files onto my desktop. It's easy to see the result and to locate for dragging, though I usually burn directly with Shrink using Nero.

Also check in Nero that 'multisession' is not checked as sometimes it can revert without warning.

DiscMania: Thanks for your tips .

I saved transcoded files in VIDEO_TS folder and add a blank folder AUDIO_TS then burn them with Nero selecting the option "DVD"->"DVD-Video" .It is O.K. this way . Please note that if you do not select DVD-Video option but choose DVD-ROM option in Nero , you will end up with a TV unviewable DVD! My reasoning then suggested that this might be the case with "Cheetah DVD Burner" because it has no "DVD video" option . It has only Data burning option only, I think. As I am new with "Cheetah DVD Burner" , I need confirmation if this is the case. Please comment.

I use RecordNow DX to burn VIDEO_TS in data mode, it has no "video" option. You should be able to burn the VIDEO_TS folder in data mode with most basic burning apps.

Is Cheetah finalising the disc?

Yes, Cheetah did its usual job like any burning. It finalized the disc . What killed me was I could view it on the PC but not on the TV . Cheetah is a very fast burner so I planned to use it as a back-up to Nero.

I think there i some confusion here. When you talk of Cheetah DVD burner are you talking about the actual DVD burner or burning software called Cheetah?

We are talking about the program "Cheetah DVD Burner v1.20" . I used the Sony DRU-510A for DVD burning.
I did not realized there is a DVD burner named Cheetah !!

No there is not a DVD burner called Cheetah, but when refering to burning software you should call it burning-rom not DVD burner or people will think you are talking about the actual drive. It would seem that the problem you have is that this burning rom will only create a data disc and not a full DVD Video disc. I presume you have checked in all the option settings? Your best bet is simply to change back to Nero. Also you should not be using two burning rom applications on the same PC or conflict will arrise and either or both will not perform 100%.

The original post was a bit confusing because the only burner you mentioned was Cheetah and it could have easily led someone to think that you were talking about a physical drive. In fact if one were to read it in context ?I then just copied these 2 folders onto the DVD-R, using Cheetah DVD Burner v1.20?it would be easy for one to assume in error that you were discussing hardware instead of software. You didn?t mention that you had a Sony burner until your second post and in that post there was no distinction made as to whether or not your Sony was a lone burner or an additional burner. I suspect that many on the forum are unfamiliar with Cheetah software because I?ve never seen it mentioned here as a preferred application, which also means that many here might not know that it isn?t just another branded DVD burner. Now that that's done, if the software isn't working then you can either continue to learn to use it, or go with the tried and true. For me the tried and true when backing up DVDs, is DVD Shrink, Nero, DVD2one, and CopyToDVD. In a comparison I've been making between Nero 6X and the lastest verion of CopyToDVD, using 50 Ritek G04 for each Nero has burned 4 coasters and CopyToDvd none. My current burner is an aging Sony DRU-500. When I buy a new burner (wating for dual layer burner) I'll make another comparison.

Sorry, guys , for unintentionally misleading the discussion! "Cheetah DVD Burner v1.20 " is the real program name and with the v1.20 I thought it would indicate a software program. In any case, I gather from the comments so far that burning transcoded files stored in the folder VIDEO_TS and an empty folder AUDIO_TS to a DVD disc in "Data mode" will not create a TV viewable DVD disc ! The DVD burning program must have the "DVD video" mode to produce TV viewable DVD disc . I wrote to Cheetah developer for a clarification but no reply yet :-( . I would welcome further comments . Thanks,
Best regards,

Good Golly this should be this should be a newbie forum question.
Why don't you just use the burn with decrypter option.
Use the iso method and uncheck burn with nero and make sure logical remap of files is checked.

If you want to burn with the already saved files then use Nero 6.3 in video mode. The files should be reallocated to work in most DVD players.
Nero 5.5 doesn't reallocate the files as well.

You can test by having DVD43 running. If the DVD43 face turns green it should play on the standalone.
If the face stays yellow then it is not recognized as a DVD-rom and will not play on a lot of players.

PS there are not suppose to be any files in the AUDIO folder.

Donald

No apology needed, I got a good laugh out of it when it turned into a "comedy of errors." I also thought for a moment that you were talkng about a physical burner. Perhaps others will read this thread and realize that the response one receives to a question will only be as clear as their question.

64026402: as I said bee 4 , I had no problems in copying DVD movies with Nero and CopyToDVD programs. I am experimenting with Cheetah DVD Burner v1.20 program now. Just expanding the horizon and get away from the tunneling effects of the crowd ...that's all.

Experimenting is good but if a program doesn't work properly don't get a headache, just drop it.

My personal experimentation has given me a specific set of programs that cover my needs.

Shrink 3.17 and Nero recode for creation of ISOs from the oe DVD.
DVDdecrypter for the simplest burning for a quick bacup.
Burning Rom 6.3 for reburning from TS files if the need arises.
Alcohol 120% for storing, tracking, burning, and initial testing of any ISOs if backing up more than one DVD at a time. Very useful.

From you description of the Cheetah program it doesn't reallocate files properly so I would avoid it until the problem was addressed.
