I am looking for a DVD authoring program that would let me choose scenes from various films to make a compliation and take DVDs I've burned from my set top unit and remove things like commericals from the programs. I've looked at programs like Ulead and such but wondered if there was a better one or even a free one that would allow me to put a compliation disc together with chapter (and menus if possible), remove commericals from programs, and other small items (like the menu creation idea mentioned above)? Thanks.

if i read your post right TMPGEnc and its dvd author program should be able to help you.

Just type "TMPGENC" in the search bar at the top of your screen to get the relevant help.

DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 both have features that let you remove clips from DVDs. Once you get a bunch of clips on your hard drive, you can make a compilation.

TMPGEnc DVD Author can add a menu and chapter points and it's good for trimming the clips. It does not support different audio formats for your clips or different aspect ratios so you have to be careful that everything is the same format when you assemble your compilation.

If you want to use clips with audio other than AC3 2ch and different aspect ratios then another program is needed.

I tried a compilation with Ulead DVD MovieFactory to see how it works. I added some clips with AC 3 2ch audio and an aspect ratio of 4:3 and then added a couple of chapters from Matrix Revolutions with 5.1 sound and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The program let me create a menu. Each clip made a chapter, The program made 4 chapters out of the Matrix clip.
I'm encoding this compilation as I type this, total size is 1.1 GB. Should take about 20 minutes to complete.

Pretty easy to do actually. Just make the clips with Shrink and add them to MovieFactory.

Cheers,
Frank
