With my luck, this has probably been answered before here. And im going to be yelled for it. I did do a search, really I did :P

Anyway, about a year ago I went down to a store that installed modchips. For the last year I have been very happy with my chip. Granted, I honestly don't know what type it is. It seems to be a home-made USB modchip that so far has booted everything I wanted.

I got a DVD burner a week ago, and Ive decided of course to make some backups. Ive only tried booting Ps2 cd rip games via a gameshark and that has worked. I cant seem to get a burned dvd game to work the same way though. (Stick the USB slot thingy in the ps2. Boot GameShark, no codes, swap disc.) Ive tried some guides, most havent worked at all though. Im using TDK media.

I heard in order to boot dvd based games you need a dvd boot disc (swap magic). Is that true?
Thanks.

I'm of the impression that with any type of USB modchip you can only play backed up games on CDR. To boot DVDR you are going to use some other form of booting. Swap magic is a solution, but again though I'm not quite sure, but you will need either a slide card or flip top to use them.
