Can someone briefly explain to me how the swap magic, fliptop and slide card work? For fliptop do I need to cut a dvd hole on top of my PS2? How do I get the fliptop to work? I'm really confused with how these all work together. When I use swap magic, fliptop and slide card then I don't need a modchip to play my backuped PS2 games right? If I buy a swap magic disc then a newer version of the swap magic disc comes out do I get free upgrade or do I need to buy the new swap magic disc version again? Thanks.
ok i will try best to explain
1.the fliptop is a replacmemt top for the ps2 you remove your orignal top on the ps2 unit and replace it with one with a lift up lid built in so you can swap discs without having to press the eject button
2.the slide card is usualy a thin plastic device that you use to force the dvd tray to open manualy it requires you to remove the faceplate of your ps2 dvd drive tray to use it
3.swap magic.these are boot discs thet will boot your ps2 backups or import games they do not require the use of a mod chip to work and for the second part of your question if a newer version is released then no you dont get a free upgrade
4.use of swapmagic, press eject insert swapmagic disc and close tray, press reset, wait for disc to boot swap for backup/import by fliptop/slide card and press x backup now boots
5.some games have a double check and require the use of cdloader to boot with swapmagic(check out here http://www.swapmagicfix.com/ )to boot these games goes somthing like this swapmagic cd>cdloader>swapmagic dvd>game backup
So if I have the fliptop then I don't need the slide card? Do I only use either one of the fliptop or the slide card with the swap magic disc? How do I cut a fliptop hole on my PS2 machine? Is the slide card better than the fliptop? I have a model 39001 (v7) PS2 and which version of the swap magic disc should I get? How does the cdloader work? I saw a URL on swapmagicfix's website and there are a whole bunch of cdloader versions. So do I just burn all those cdloader versions on a single cd-r and use it or do I have to make a cd-r for each version of the cdloader (example: cdloader, cdloader version 7, and cdloader version 7 beta 5 ... etc). Thanks for answering my questions.
the fliptop is a replacment top you buy and fit on your ps2 and you only need either the fliptop or slide card not both,i personaly find the fliptop easier to use.
swap magic cd version 2/3.0/3.2 and dvd version2.0 all work on a v7 ps2
for cdloader, all you would need is the cdloader v7all as all the beta options are included with that version on a sub menu and you would burn it to cdr
cdloader is used to boot double check games with swapmagic(if you decide to go with flip/slide and swapmagic i will post instructions on how to use it when you need them)
The fliptop and swap magic discs are a low cost way to play backups PS2 games. But the fliptop seems pretty hard to assemble to me. I need to take off my PS2 cover and replace it with the fliptop. There are so many things I need to remove and put back on. Is it really hard for you guys to install the fliptop yourself?
How do you use swap magic discs (smd)? Do you take the smd out when it is still spinning in the DVD player or will it stop spinning and allow you to take the smd out and put the backup games in?
Does fliptop and swap magic discs need a Gameshark or Action Replay device in order to work? Are there any backuped games that cannot be played with the fliptop and smd excluding the games that can be played with the use of cdloader from swapmagicfix.com. I heard the backup of Onimusha Blade Warriors cannot be played, is it true? Thanks for answering my question.
i have a question is it true that this fliptop thingy is the safest way to play backups and stuff?
does it force anything?
I just dont want to hurt my Ps2?
Maria =)
Hi there,
I have just bought and installed a flip top case on my PS2. I only have a dvd + writer which has min burning speed of 2.4x, I am using quality +R media (traxdata - with the ritek dye) I have backed up a few games using DVD Decrypter.
I had problems installing the case, the hardest part for me was making sure that the eject\reset ribbon cable didn't get pinched by the plastic posters on the flip top when shutting it. Now that it's all assembled I find that my flip top lid does not open up smoothly, I press the button and have to slightly pull the lid so that it comes up. Although I have tried reseating the case many times I always get that same problem. So I decided to leave it like that for now and see what happens.
Well the results of playing my backed up games are quite interesting and I'm not sure whether it points to the sticky flip lid or not.
First of all, all of my PS2 originals play first and every time. (It could be that I can still load them the original way through the eject tray)
When I play my backups I get erratic results, sometimes they play and sometimes they dont, or I'm left waiting for a blank screen to disappear. Then during gameplay the sound may stop, or graphic freezes for a moment. I never get the red border after loading the Swap magic disc, it's always blue, or now and again I will get a quick flash of green border then straight to blue. This indicates that I have a good backup but there is possibly a problem somewhere.
Can some one give me some advice as to what is going on. I am positive I have the right case for my PS2 version 7, and I think it could be flip lid which I think should pop up with ease.
