Hello everybody, please help.

My brother was playing music on his laptop using Windows Media player, I copied the music files hurriedly from his Laptop via Windows 98 copy into a CDRW.

I am trying to play the copied files but find it will not play. The File Type says it is a RealSystem Secured Media File, with this extension: .rmx

I have tried to play the files with WinAmp, Media player and Real player but no luck. I keep getting a message about the files being secured and needing the code from the laptop it was copied from.

Can I convert these files please? I am desperate.

That is exactly what it is - an encrypted file format developed by Real Media.
You will need to play the audio from the laptop you nicked it from into your existing system and rerecord it.
AFAIK there is nothing yet out there that can break the encryption.

yeah...u most have goten these from Real Rhapsody. They have rights managment so u are limited to only using them on a number of computers and not many burns... if u wanted to avoid this u could always use a program like Audio Record Wizard (get it here: http://download.com.com/3000-2140-10284795.html?tag=lst-0-1)
and just record them straight from ur sound card to restriction free mp3...
