I've seen many posts claiming that V5 and lower cannot read DVD+R media. I've also seen posts of people claiming that their V4 had no problem with DVD+R media. I ended up buying a DVD+-RW/R drive due to the fact that I heard V4 cannot read DVD+R, and because my DVD players in my house couldn't read it.
All I want to know is, for V4, what are most people using? The Swap Magic DVD version 2.0 just refuses to load any DVD game backup I put in. I'm using FUJIFILM media, which I heard works fine. These are DVD-Rs, and I burn using DVD Decrypter.
Well some version 4's can read dvd+r and some can't. However it shouldn't have any trouble playing dvd-r and fujifilm is good brand. DVD Decrypter is also a good program, I use it myself. The only advice I can give you is to create and image file to your HD first and burn at the slowest speed possible. Also, are you using the fliptop, slide-card or no-solder mod?
You're saying I should burn at 1X? :(
I used DVD Decrypter for the last thing I burnt. And I'm using a flip-top-like way to boot.
My PS2 is open, and I just "flip" the cover off the DVD drive, and swap discs, then put the cover back on, and continue. Works fine for CDs, and I've never gotten one DVD to work.
Burning at 1X could help. It's the only thing I can think of other than you have a weak laser. Though the ps2 generally has more trouble reading cd-r's than dvd-r's... kind of strange problem.
OK. Allow me to attempt to explain what the PS2 does when it attempts to read my DVD-Rs, at the swap disc screen.
I swap discs, and I hit X. It spins the disc in a very odd way. It spins, stops, spins, stops, spins, stops, and a final spin and stop, which loads the red on the screen. :(
At this point, I believe my PS2 V4 can only read +R. For my friend's V4 PS2, it will actually show the red screen when I insert a DVD-R. So, I believe mine is one of the bunch that can only read DVD+R. It refuses to read DVD-R both after the boot disc loads and at the BIOS.
