I recently bought a ps2 premodded and it seems to work fine as an overall, the problem I am having is that most of my ps1 backups are not working right, these are fairly old backups, and all the recent burns do seem to work correctly that were made from originals on my newer burner, but the older ones worked on my ps model 1 with first gen mod.

The symptoms are that the games load up even get to the ps logo, but though I can hear the music and sound, even to the point that I can hear demo's starting, and can even "start" the game, I get NO video, one at least if I start it then backup, I can sometimes get graphics, and one starts up plays a video sequence,then nothing except sound again, this is highly frustrating, esp. as I have searched long time and can find nothing relating to this problem. I have a model 10 ps2, with network adapter, using the matrix infinity chip upgraded already to 1.2. All of my originals work as do ps2 backups and ps1 originals, and some backups, what I am hoping for is the answer to why, and what can I do about it, and can I save my games, but at this point mostly I would love a conclusive answer or even a good theory as to why, in this area I am the person everyone comes to about gaming and VG systems and frankly not knowing is driving me up the wall, thanks for any help or words of encouragment even.

Sounds to me like it might just be a simple media compatability problem. I had this same issue with a few of my early PS1 backups on my PS2. I found that by reburning the backup onto newer media has worked fine with me.

Sounds like your old media faded. PSX backups made at high speed on cheaper media tend to fade after a few months to a couple years depending on the quality of media which would explain why your new PSX backups work in your PS2. To help prevent this from happening try burning at 1x on Verbatim Datalife Plus media. Verbatims are the only media guaranteed to prevent this from happening. Note also that your old backups that don't read in your PS2 should read fine in your PC and you can reback them up and they should work fine.

Well Now, I tried to Reburn and am still getting the same results, whats worse is now that that has happend i decided to just try an original one of them so that i could play it, it was Castlevania, symphony of the night, and it did the same thing as the backup, as well as a completly new backup from the original also failed.... well on a Perhaps sort of thing I turned off the chip (don't know why I did not do this before) the original booted FINE... this would not be a prob. but some of my backups are irreplacable... Japanese imports... any more help would be appreciated
