some rumours that ati have sent out some, not yet final hardware, silghtly under powered review samples, but nothing concrete. they are waiting to see what the 8800s can do before they show thier hand, makes sense to me.
also some other rumours of the mid/low end g80s in feb with some less power hungry features, which should be nice those of use with out 1kw psu's

scan have also got the new nf68(689i) mobos in. a steal for £199.15 :)

Yeah, but why? lol. An 8600GT could be very promising, and what do you reckon, 7800GT/GTX power level? Would probably have half the thermal consumption of those cards too, that's one thing nVidia have got good at, and ATi have just ignored, seemingly! True the 8800 power consumption is huge, but the R600's will very likely be far bigger. I'd prescribe a 700W+ PSU to guarantee good performance with one X2800, you'd want a 1KW unit for two, and as for 3x crossfire? Erm....

tough one that, history shows the new mid range is on par with the high end of the last gen, but with the 7800s, 7900s and the gx2, who knows? i would guess it would be somewhere in between the first two, but with sm 4 being its trump card.
i wonder which models ati will be bringing out at launch, and if they be £450?

Hmmm, given the past I'd expect ATi's new offering to retail at somewhere aroun the £400 mark rather than £480 that the 8800GTX is. Previously it seems all the nVidia cards have appeared at higher prices than ATi, and that hasn't changed much with time. The midrange segment is very competitive, but at high end, nVidia's fanboy-attracting marketing seems to be allowing for a higher net price than the competition. A while back I noted an X1900XT being $290 at newegg and the 7900GTX being $450. As far as I'm aware that situation, may not be as bad but it still stands. I remember the 7950GX2 being over £400. I never remember the X1900 series being that much...

not sure about the noise with a stock cooler but take a look at the temps on the before pic near the bottom, toasty!

get a dif dvdrw. i had one of those far 3 days and took it back. it made more coasters than any thing.
get an nec or pioneer.
but the rest is great.

ok I guess i'll get a Pioneer 111 DVDRW Dual-Layer instead. And I'll just get the Antec P150 Quiet MidTower case instead of the Sonatta II since it comes with the Antec Neo HE 430W PSU which is supposed to be great and costs like $120 seperately and its only a $60 upgrade to that case, plus it being super silent doesnt hurt.

remember you can't booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM with Pioneer drives. i would go Plextor ,Lite-On or BenQ
i'am not sure that 430 watt PS is going to be big enough . i would go 480 watt at the very least, you might check that out.
everything else looks pretty good . i would check newegg.com on prices before you pull the trigger

great, im begining to realize that I may have underestimated the importance of a good PSU. So with that site it recommended 473W without any OC'ing. I dont plan on doing alot of OC besides the video card. So does anyone know of a PSU/case solution that wont break the bank? My original budget could fit $200 CAD but lower would be nice. Otherwise im gunna have to rethink this PC. :/

you should probably look into getting them separate and spend 100 on each.
you want to check how many amps the 7950 needs and start from there.

At tigerDirect they have a Geforce 7600 Gt XXX Vid card[139.99], how much more performance will I get from what I have now w/ the SLI set up per my sig?

AMD has some utilities and up-dates for thier 64x2 prossores... I hear you can splite the two... here is my thought??? If you can split the two you can burn two differant movies at the same time on the fly? I have never heard anyone doing that, but two weeks ago at a shop I heard two young'ens deep into conversation about doing it???

it was a comment aimed at silver112's question about nerds and using xp home. i thought it was funny more than anything.
iv never used a linux distro but depending on how the netx 12 months go for vista i minght use one as my next os. linux comes in many forms, but they are all free open source operating systems, that are updated and maintained by its user base, in a co-op fashion.
i friend of mine uses it and he says that Kubuntu is one of if not the easiest to get to grips with (his opinion as i have not used linux).
i do know that some versions allow you to run the os from the disk so you can try them without the need to install them or delete anything else, which is nice.
i think that someone in the software threads will be able to shed more light on this topic as this is a hardware thread.
