sorry for posting q's that have been answered already... =P

how do i know if i need to patch a game or not ?

is it hard to do ?

i have a multi format burner... how do i know if i should use + or - for a certain game ?

i have a v 4 with flip top

to find out what games needs a patch, go to swapmagicfix.com it has a list of all games that cannot be booted using swap magic.

Since you ps2 is an older machine (V4) i don't they can read + media, only - media.
