Several new DVD recorders now support DVD-RW with two formatting options, either video or VR (video recording).

Video format is compatible with DVD players and works in most players.

VR format recordings are incompatible with most DVD players and works only on some Sony, Pioneer, Emerson models.

I just bought an Emerson DVD recorder that can write to DVD-RW VR format. It has good editing capabilities. But I haven't been able to play the resulting DVD in any DVD player or DVD-ROM PC drive anywhere. I can't even see what file(s) are there.

To be useful, I'd like to be able to convert or copy a DVD-RW VR format disk to a regular format DVD-RW or DVD+RW, but haven't found any references about how to do it.

In particular, how can I find out what PC drives can read a DVD-RW VR format disk?
