I've just gotten a DVD burner and am having some trouble backing up my DVD's. I'm using DVD shrink and Nero to burn the DVD's. The problem arises when I attempt to play back the burned copies. Each DVD will play upto about a quarter of the movie, usually around the 25-30 minute mark and then freezes. It has done this on all the DVD's I've burnt so far. My burner is a Lite-On SOHW-812S and I've been using some Ridata DVD+R's I got off of Newegg.

So far I've tried several other DVD ripping programs, such as CloneDVD2 to rip and burn, and I get the same issues of the DVD freezing a quarter of the way through.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Is it the programs that are messing up or my burner or my blank DVD's?

Thanks for any reccommendation anyone might have.

Do you expereince the same problem when playing them on your pc?
Your stand alone player may have a low tolerance for compressed movies on blank media.
What player are you playing the back-ups on.

GOTO http://www.dvdrhelp.com and check out your player, media & format compatability.
Also check out your writer and see which media it prefers as well.

Hey thanks, so far it seems to be the player I'm playing them on. It does play on my PC, but my PS2 and DVD player have the freezing problem I mentioned earlier. I'm guessing buying a new DVD player would fix the problem since both my DVD player and PS2 are 2+ years old. Any other suggestions anyone might had would be welcome. Thanks again.

Liteons usually dont have a problem with media so that shouldnt be an issue, but your player may have issues with certain media.
Is the Ridata +R branded , have you used an id tool to verify that it is authentic Ridata media?
I know that Nero 6 has such an tool, you can also do a search within the forum for a link to others.
Ridata media is usually very dependable.
One other thing to do is to take the copied disk to an electronic store , like BEst buy and play it on one of the cheapies like apex and see what the results are.

My guess is your media. Check out the link 321sucker provided. I like using Verbatim Branded media.

I went to dvdrhelp and saw several negative post on the ridata +r media from newegg.
I purchased 100 Ritek -R silver matte,ID'd Ridata, from supermediastore, have 100% burns out of 60 used.
Burners are
Liteon 451 flashed to 851 GSOH firmware
&
NEC 2500a
