Hi All, I looked through the FAQ and some of the other posts and didn't quite find an answer... great info though.
I'm using dvd decrypter and all goes well during the process but none of the dvd based games will play. I just get a 'please insert a ps2 format disk' msg.
I'm not sure which mod chip I have. It came preinstalled about a year and a half ago. It plays backup CD based games just fine and plays backup dvdr & dvdrw movies just fine...
I am using dvdr's and have blown through a bunch that dont work.
What am I missing? Thanks a ton for your help. Ani

i'm not sure what the difference is between - and + R's only that PS2's prefer the DVD-R. are you a boot disk to load your DVD games

dvd decrypter -mode -iso -read
it saves the image as DVDIMAGE.MDS (is this the right file to be using?) It puts a couple of others in there too. then mode- iso -write
speed 1X
BURN - proof checked test and verify are not.
thanks

i use the ISO. file could you tell me the other type of files that are there as well as the MDS and the ISO. i've only ever came across a game that produces a MDS and a ISO never a third file. try burning the game the same way but burn the ISO file

how do you try and boot your backups?
also conny you can get split iso files if you are using a fat 32 partition on your hard disc then you get a mds file and two or more parts to the iso

thanks connie. ive got it writing the iso. hopefully that will work:) i guess burning the wrong file might explain why its not working!!!
im not sure how it boots the backups. it came with no modchip instructions. sometimes i have to hit reset, sometimes not. im not even sure which modchip i have. if you know the particulars on how to proprely boot i would love to know.
thanks, ani

conny & devilhunt-
thanks for your help:) i actually contacted the co i bought the whole getup from and asked which modchip was installed. anyway, we came to the conclusion that one of the lasers (there are two i guess) is dead thus causing it to play normal (not backup) games & movies okay but no backups?
sending the console in for repair and upgrading my chip to a neo. i took all of the backups i made to a friend and they all work great! so now i have like 18 backup copies of two games! sometimes it's better to quit while your ahead:) if it's obvious it aint workin then...
i bring this up as a possibility for the folks who are having no luck. the software is simple & the burning process seems fairly straight forward so if it just isn't working hardware stuff might be the cause?
also, DVD Decrypter had my 'split iso' set default to 1gb, that's why i had the third file. i changed it to 'don't split' and the iso remained intact.
x-ffa -
to find out which version....http://www.modchip.com/ps2/ps2id.htm (devilhunt's link)
using DVD Decrypter i just burned the iso. i mistakenly was trying to burn the mds and there wasn't much there.
thanks all for your help:) ani
