Error: Burn failed.

If anything the only thing I have changed so far beside the computer is the newer version of NERO. I have tried Alohol 120%, Clone DVD, DVD Decrypter (Works beutifully decrypting but still errors on burn), DVD Shrink , DVD Fab an older and current version of Nero. I have updated my firmware on the DVD burner, I am yet to find out what my DVD Rom acually is in order to upgrade the frimware. I have viewed and checked and double checked forums all over and still have not seen a fixable solution to this extremely frustrating problem I seem to be having. I am desperately hoping someone can help me with this before I do something drastic....!!!!!!

Try this:

Here is the link to the ASPI utility for WIN XP which also has the ASPI chk tool within it.
http://adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=%2FOperating+System%2FMicrosoft+Windows+XP&filekey=aspi_v471.exe

Copy and paste these instructions to notepad and print them, since you'll have to reboot to complete the installation.

In advance, I aplogize if my instructions seem elementary, not all are pc savvy.

First click on the link above and download the file to the default location which will be the root of the local disk. Here is the path, depending on your drive letter, may be "c" or "d". If it is local disk d then replace the c with the d.

C:\adaptec\aspi or D:\adaptec\aspi

Now go to windows explorer, by right clicking the windows start button and left clicking explore.

Look for the adaptec folder

Double Click on the adaptec folder, and to the right, in the split window, you'll see the aspi folder, now double click it. Now you will see a multitude of files.

Look for the "aspiinst" icon and double click it. Follow the instructions.

DOnt worry that it doesn't mention anything about ASPI for WIN XP, its OK.. DONT WORRY it will work.. 4 SHO..

Once rebooted go back to the aspi folder and look for the "aspichk" icon, this is the ASPI check.

Here are the instructions to get to the folder
Double Click on the adaptec folder, you'll see the aspi folder, now double click it.

At the bottom in very light letters you will either see ASPI is installed and fully operational, which is what you want or ASPI error or ASPI is not functional or.. you get the point.
At any regard, you'll want the ASPI to be installed and fully operational.
GOOD LUCK & hope this helps..... 321sucker

InCD is known to cause DVD burning problems on many systems. Try uninstalling InCD.

Thanks for the help so far guys.... keep it coming.. I have removed INCD software and removed AnyDVD also. Nothing happening still. I have contacted Iomega support they said try with out any other software running in start up through MSCONFIG. Did that also... Failed again. I am currently trying different DVD media. My next step will be to uninstall all burning software and then only install one at a time, remove it if it doesn't work and install another and keep going to see if one works... Has anyone else got any other ideas so far for me. I tried DMA switching also, but that has not made the difference I was hoping for unfortunately. PC's fault no one elses, thanks heaps for the assistance so far guys...

Good eye but it has nothing to do with the burn error that arkraider is having, it will effect the burn / rip speed.

Tru, InCD can cause conflicts with other burning software but if you are using nero to burn, InCD wont effect your burning, being it is part of the Nero suite. I dont think Nero would add a software that conflicts with itself.

I currently have Nero ultimate edition without InCD due to Xcopy conflict,Xcopy Platinum,DVD Decyptor, Shrink, Adobe Encore DVD, and several others and have no problems ripping or burning.
I use Ridata G04 silver matte 4x media

Be certain you have all Windows updates and SP's
Have you updated the ASPI on the pc?

321.... Thanks for the info so far... I don't know enough about "aspi" to know what it is let alone updateing it or any destructive qualities it may have if something goes wrong with the update... Can you offer advice on how to update and what it does... Thanks...

Just looked inside pc case and have noticed on my Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 mother board there are 4 IDE slots and my IDE hard drive is plugged into IDE slot 3 and my burner and ROM are plugged into IDE slot 2 The other drive is SATA so that is ok in another slot. But shouldn't the IDE drives be in Slot 1 and two and then any other addon go to remaining. Shouldn't something be at least plugged into slot 1???

The SCSI error is a most compelling reason to still look at the ASPI.

4.71 is the least stable and compatible version of the bunch. Most give ver. 4.60 the highest marks although ver. 4.71.2 is a very good performer (I've had the best results with 4.71.2 myself).

It may do some good to download ForceASPI 1.7. Once extracted to a folder there are a couple steps to take.

1) Look for a batch file called KILLASPI. Run it then reboot. This will wipe your ASPI completely and give you a clean slate to start from.

2) Now look for a batch file called INSTASPI. Run it then reboot. This will install ver. 4.60 on your system.

Once this is done you can use ASPICHK to verify your install. All four entries should read ver. 4.60. Here's a link to ASPICHK if you don't have it already:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?cat=%2fProduct%2fEZ-SCSI_5.0&filekey=aspichk.exe&sess=no

By "4 IDE slots" you're referring to the number of connectors on the cables, correct?

Most motherboards (there are exceptions) have 2 IDE ports with one being the Primary and the other being the Secondary. I believe Gigabyte color codes theirs.

It would help to know which drives are on the very end connector of each cable (Master) and which drives are on the middle connector of the cable (Slave).

Hard drives are best on the Primary channel and set to master and the burner would be best on the Secondary channel set to Master. The ROM would be fine set to Slave on either channel. Of course the proper jumper settings are required too :)

Nephilim, Thanks for the advice, I have done all the Chk, Kill and isntall Aspi things as mentioned. Was running ver 6 on pc anyway, when I checked it before doing anything else.Tried again with and with out. A mate asked if I had the windows SP.1 on PC, I said no.... I have now and am having a little more luck but still crashing the burn with the same error. Not quite as frequent though.
I am still trying to burn and also I am unable to get over 2x speed no matter what software, type of DVD + or - R doesn't seem to care.
Also regarding IDE slots, I am referring to slots on Motherboard. There are 4 slots. My DVD drives are running as they should be on the cable and set up slave / master correct. My 40 gig hard drive is in Slot 3 on MB and DVD drives are on slot 2 on MB. Shouldn't really make a difference I gues seeing as I am ripping to my SATA drive I suppose. But I thought I should ask the question anyway.

LOL, good one! Plextor and Pioneer are about as good as it gets but with the Pioneer 107 going for $90 now it's a no-brainer as to which is the best deal :)

Most DVD writers have a 2x limitation on ripping, but liteon drives dont. With other burners, you'll need an addition DVD-reader to rip any faster, but not with lite-on dirves, one drive does it all.
Try NewEgg

the 851s goes for around 80 bucks, its a no brainer, PAL.

Well boys and girls... it is official.... I can now bag the crap out of Iomega hardware... Do not... I repeat.... Do not buy Iomega Super DVD burner... It is only a waist of your hard earned money.. If you feel you must waist it.. Then I will gladly accept all donations my way...I have now tried it not only with multiple types of disks and software... but also on three different PC's..... all come up with nearly all the same error essages.... regardles... does not burn video to DVD format of any type.... Not in Australia anyway.......I do have one piece of advice for all who burn... and that is make sure you have you Service Pack installed for Windows XP if you expect them to work....
Also can anyone tell me about this DVD (NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A)writer and whether it is a good buy for $100.00 AUSD????

I have an NEC 2500a as well as the Liteon 451s flashed to 851s.
I've updated the NEC's firmaware to ver 1.07 and it rips and burns flawlesslt using Ridata G04 -R media.
I've heard that NEC's and -R dont agree, but contrar, tis not true.

My liteon is great as well. If I had to choose I'd take the liteon, its a bit noisy, but a great ripper and can burn most 4x media at 8x on the +R side.

Well, Well, Well, what do you know. After all of the hasels above I have now purchased a second hand burner from a mate of mine (NEC 2500A) and it is working an absolute treat. I can thoroughly recomend this burner. On the other front, I can not complain at all with the service I have had from Iomega regarding my original faulty drive. They have replaced it after a lengthy phone call with someone from Singapore. (they paid for the call) The service has been great, however I do not wish to use the replacement burner, only because the NEC is working so well, so I will be selling that else where and will get what I can for it. Further more I would like to thank all for there input into my dilema. Happy Burning to you all !!!

Good decision arkraider,

The NEC 2500a is a great drive. I have again, updated my flash to enabled Dual Layer burning, havent tried it yet, but that update also enabled my drive to rip at up to 8x and burn Ridata -R 4x at the 8x speeds, and better yet, no coasters..

I can send you the info on the whereabouts if you like.

321, That would be great. I did not know that could be done, dual layer, I mean. I thought you have to buy a dual layer burner. Also can you recomend any other late model burners that are just as good as the NEC I have. A friend of mine is interested in buying a burner but this model is out of production and stock.
