I got the swap magic disks and the flip top for my ps2. Many times the ps2 won't load the cd disk. It works about every 4 times i try. Is that normal?

i'm using the swapmagic cd disk 3.0 and dvd disk 2.0. If you didn't know yet, it works better to use the cd swap magic than it is to use the dvd swap magic disk.

I'm having alot of problems w/ swap dvd 2 and cd 3. I just bought cds and flip top a few days ago. I am totally lost after reading some postings in different forums on how to use these cds. I'm not sure if I need the cdloader or dvd loader along w/ two cds. Two nights ago I was able to start a back up of Siren since then I cant get it to load using anyones method. Swap2.0,swap CD3.0, Eject, TOC, swap backup. I dont always get a load screen, rarely actually. Please help a lost individual. Thanks

here's some instructions for you,
to load a dvd game that does NOT require cd/dvdloader.
just swap your swap magic disk for your backup!
alt' method: insert swap magic cd, eject and insert swap magic dvd (or other high toc original game ie: vice city, devil may cry), when screen changes back to load program menu, swap for your backup.
use of cdloader and dvdloader is the same, except for the way that you load them. dvdloader uses swap magic dvd, cdloader uses swap magic cd.
to load a game that DOES require cd/dvdloader (using sm dvd).
load sm dvd, swap for dvdloader, ejcet and insert sm dvd or other high toc game, wait for the display to show ps2 dvd (bottom left of screen), press x, at the message "insert dvdr by ea method" swap for your backup.
pn. different versions of ps2 and certain games may require the use of the cd/dvdloader sub menu options, to access them, press x before you change cd/dvdloader for toc.
(don't ask me what versions or games use what option though, you'll have to look around the forum for the answers)

I still cant get anything. Using the cd 3.0 I cant even get the load screen to come up. The dvd 2.0 gives me a starry screen saying insert disc. Is it possible that I might have received bad software? Is there a way to check it? Any ideas on a good mod chip for ver 4 PS2? Thanks

Animulius, that is the same thing that's happening to me. Except mine loads all the way and then it freezes loading something. When that does happen, and it says error reading disk, eject the tray and press eject again. keep doing that until it recognizes a disk. then load it. When it does load, eject the tray take out the SW disc and put in a game with a high TOC (ex. FFX) when the screen comes back up swap the disk with using the flip top with your DVD-R backup. Press X and it should load. The problem is though that it freezes when it loads. I hope that helps.

quick question... has anyone been able to download a copy of the swap magic cd either version 2.0 or 3.0 and successfully burn it and get it to load. I have burned it image with no problem but it will not load in my sons ps2.i have even tried tweaking the ps2 to see if it will recongize the cd but it doesn't it loads originals just fine. I've used 2 different types of media one memorex and other generic which i'm sure wouldn't read in ps2 but tried anyway. I guess my question is have anyone got a burned copy of swap magic to work if so what was your resolution. I'm using Nero 6.3 and tried alchol 120. I have exhausted all things to try. I also read that the original solution is hard to boot also so makes me leary in supporting something that won't fully work or have problems using.
thanks for any info in advance

hey i know what your problem is, i used to have s/m and i hated it, your going to need to adjust your laser, eject your disk tray, open the flip top. and there should be a white disk that has a hex key hole in the top, should be pretty obvious, mines near the very back of the disk tray but ive seen 2 that are on the left side i think, but anyway, get an hex key or something that will turn it and turn it a few clicks counterclockwise. turn ur ps2 on and put in a good cd game. tell me if it helps you or if you can find it

thansk for the advice but my originals read just fine. its the stupid swap magic disk i'm having a problem with. again i've tried cdrs and i'v burned one with dvd-r media and it won't find my burned copy of this application. I've also tried that trick of adjusting the laser but i haven't tried it since burning my dvd-r copoy i may give that another try to see if that works. I also have been reading on swapmediafix.com that there's suppose to be some file i can download to help with this problem . the only problem is i can't find the file everyone referring too.

hey again, yeah i remember i used to have the exact same prob when i swapped, another thing you could do to adjust the laser, the little screws that hold the laser on those metal rods, you could turn the left one about 1/4 of a turn but u need a very small screwdriver....
okay jgrif did you say you DOWNLOADED? the swap magic disk? you cant download something and make it work unless you have a modchip or an original swap magic disk, sorry.

I'll answer for him. It sux because it doesn't play any games at all it just freezes when u play. And most of the time the swap magic cd disc won't load which works better than the dvd disc. Try buying the hdloader.

I bought the flip top and the swap magic discs and it'll work alright until it has to load something or search the memory card. I use dvd-r. And it just freezes. I recomend the hdloader even though i haven't gotten it yet.

i know what your problem is. you cant copy the swap magic disk. the reason you need a swap magic disk is because when the playstation loads a program it checks for a valid playstation game disk or a disk that is burned like one like a dvdrom. dvdroms are burned differently then you would burn a dvd-r. i use swap magic and it has loaded everygame flawlessly with the exeption of a few games ive had to modify. i use a version 7 playstation 2 so i dont know if that has anything to do with it.
