Is it possible to burn backups for PS2 if you dont possess a DVD-RW Drive? And if you could burn CD-R format backups for PS2 what would be the difference between CD-R version and DVD-R version? I'm using a CD-RW and im planning to burn a CD format PS2 game, would it work? Thanks so much

if the game is cd based then you can just back it up to cdr without to many problems, but if its dvd based then you have to "rip" the game to fit on a cdr this involves either finding a rip kit for the game in question or doing it your self.It is quite a long process that requires you removing the fmv sequences and maybe even the audio tracks and you need some knoledge of how to do it,with the price of dvd writers so cheap nowdays and media is not that expensive i would recomend you buy your self a dvd writer is so much easier and quicker

if you have backed up ps1 cd games in the past then you should have no problems with ps2 cd based games as they have the same type of protection on them but dvd to cd is a whole different ball game

1.Oh one more question, how can you tell the difference between a dvdrip and a cd? Do you just judge on file sizes? Because i've seen DVD rips that are small enought to fit onto CD-R.

2.And I've also seen DVD and CD-R versions of the same game, what is the difference between the versions?

Thanks again

dvd rips are designed to fit on a cdr as its a dvd based game that has had some parts removed/downsampled

some games have been released in different regions on different formats e.g. a game maybe released or cd as a NTSC release but on dvd as a PAL release
hope this clears it up a bit
