A month ago I bought 100 DVD-R's from BigPockets.co.uk after copying 1 of the DVD's the others all started not copying and giving errors.
So I updated my DVD-R's firmware to SONY DVD RW DRU-510A 1.1f. However the disc's continued not to work (while a DVD-RW did work - so i knew that is was them not the DVD writer) so I sent them back (thinking it was an incompatability problem - and reading the decription it did mention incompatibility with Sony drives).

I decided to get "Business Special **Grade A Duplication Quality Media** 4x DVD-R" as this sounded pretty fail safe.
I burnt 5 DVD-R's which worked perfectly.
However when i tried to burn the 6th discs the problem sprung its ugly head again.

I discovered that for some discs that gave me an error i could burn at 1x and they would not give a write error.
However these discs would not be recognised in my DRU-510A or my Pioneer DVD-656a DVD Player.
They will be recognised by a Sony DDU1612.

I then found some discs did not want to burn even on 1x speed.
I tried burning onto these discs backups of films using DVD-Shrink and Pinnacle InstantCD+DVD (This didn't work).
I also tried burning using DVD-shrink and DVD-decrypter (This didn't work).

I finally tried using 321 Studios DVDXcopy Platinum (This worked as it played in my DRU-510A - but the DVD would not play in my DVD-656a DVD-Player only).

Something which may be to do with this is that the DVD's I burned with DVDXCopy Platinum were CDFS (Joliet) DVD's not UDF DVD's....??

Do you have any idea what to do...?
I am gonna get a copy of Nero and try with that (and perhaps try copying the Discs with UDF on).

Depending on who manufactured the media you've used thus far it may be worthwhile to try known quality media such as Ritek G04, Verbatim Metal AZO or Taiyo Yuden.

It would help to know who manufactured the discs you've been using. Here's a link to a cool little app that will tell you who made them:

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Let us know what you find out and we can go from there :)

I did a little poking around and there are a lot of mixed opinions on them.

I may be worthwhile to get a few of the media I listed above for testing. Maxell is another good one and can usually be found in retail stores. Here's a good link that lists the quality of different makes of media:

I noticed you got them from the UK....

Another good site in the UK is http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk

I use these for all my media, any probs with them they take the remainder back and offer a refund or replacement with the same or different type.......first class aftersales service no quibbles......

Guaranteed supplier of Ritek branded and Ritek made A grade media and also what Nephilim wrote.........once you go here, it's difficult to look elsewhere (IMHO)..........

I do not work for them, but stand by my word that they are my first choice for media........good range aswell.....postage can be a little steep, so I order for my friends aswell - that way I get them to cover the postage........lol.....

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............
Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down
