I've just recently installed a mod-chip in my ps2, and have been backing up all my games to Memorex DVD-R 4x discs. Most of the games work fine, but there are a handful that load some times, and sometimes they don't load at all. I tried to do a little research as to why this might happen and I found a lot of talk on forums about CMC and RICOH discs. People generally seem to think that RICOH is the way to go, and that CMC isn't so hot, often having trouble with discs that contain more than 4 gigs of info (to quote, "if you get CMC discs, run to the post office to return them IMMEDIETLY!".) From what I've read you can buy a spindle of the same exact product and it can be a toss up as to which style (CMC or RICOH) you recieve.
I apologize firstly for asking something that I should have been able to research. The truth is that I tried, and I just couldn't seem to find any information that told you any definition between the two styles, or why one is better than the other (aside from CMC's problem with discs containing more than 4 gigs.)
My question now is this. With a DMS3 installed on a V9 PS2, what DVDs are the best? I've always been told to go with DVD-Rs, does it matter once you have a mod-chip?
Secondly, what is CMC and RICOH and how can I tell the difference between the two when ordering?
Finally, what is the general concensus on recordable DVDs to use with backups? I've heard Imation thrown around a lot, as well as Ritek. Is it because they are the cheapest, or the best quality discs?
Thank you for your time
