How to play a original PS one game on modded PS console?

Hi every one,
I just got a used PS one game console from my relative. It came with some of back up games (CD-r) and it worked fine with those back up games. My problem is that I could not play any of original PS1 games which I bought from Best Buy. I think the console is modded. I tried to copy the games from Best Buy but it still didn't work.
Anybody could help me? I would appreciate it.
