I seem to have a very tempermental PS2. I have got a dvd+r burner but when backing up my ps2 games they do not work. I know it is not the chip because dvd-r work fine. The strange thing is back up films do work on dvd+r though it can be a bit hit and miss.
I dont know whether to by a new ps2 laser (mine also struggles with disks unless they are of a good quality and a dark purple dye)or a new -r burner. Is it possible to convert a +r drive to burn -r? And has anyone else had similar problems and can offer any advice? My ps2 is a v7.

I doubt it is your laser... If your only having problems with the DVD+R then I would think its your media... What is your DVD drive make and what is the make of media your using. Let us know and I will get back to you.

Whene I first got to this board, I was worried because people say DVD+Rs are pretty bad for PS2. However, I've found the opposite to be quite true.

I have:

- v4 PS2
- NEC ND-6100 DVD+RW drive
- Been using Memorex DVD+R media
- Slide Card with SM 2.0

And I have had little to no problems with my PS2. Only games that don't work straight up with the swap card are Soul Calibur 2 and Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando. Reported games such as Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, work with no CDLoader. So I guess you can say in my experience, I have had almost no problems with +R media.

my drive is lite-on DVD+RW LDW401-S. The media I use is datasafe 4x. I use these as I have had no troubles with the -r's in the past.
Thanks very much for the replies. I have heard older ps2's wont entertain +r at all which is even more confusing.

i use a liteon as well and the movies work. im waiting on the duo chip to advance my 2nd gen ps2 do you need a boot disc for the backup disks to work.

how did you get splinter cell pandora to work as a backup. i tried 3x at different speeds and different media and cant play.
