Hi all
You know what it's like, a family member wants to borrow a dvd so you let them have it, some 2 months later they foget the origin and I forget who got it. Is there any way I can put a text message or image that displays before the dvd movie starts.
thanks

TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD Lab could do that although writing your name on the disc with a sharpie would easier and cheaper :)

My killer sig came courtesy of bb "El Jefe" mayo.

The easiest way is to use a marker and just write on the disc....just kidding!

Here is one way to do it. I tried this and it took about 10 minutes.

I opened NeroVision express and selected "Make a DVD". I then selected "add video files". I added a short clip, set the length to about a minute or so amd then added some text to it. Once that was finished I chose to not make a menu (find the menu select box under "more".) and then burned it to a folder on my hard drive.

Now the next time I use Shrink to re-author a DVD, I can add this to my compilation.

If you need a clip, use DVD Shrink in the reauthor mode, using the start/end feature, and just cut out a short segment for use. You may also just want to download a clip of some sort. If you want to use still images, you might try creating a simple slideshow and then once that is burned to your hard drive, run it through the "make a DVD" feature to add some text to it.

As far as that goes, you could use all the .vobs from a movie in Nerovision Express and simply add your text to the movie. You could also add a menu to your movie as well.

This is just one way to do it. There maybe better ways to do something like this.

Cheers,
Frank

Dang it Neph you beat me again!!! I always start a reply and in the middle of writing it, I want to try what I might be suggesting to see if it will work.

I went ahead and tried making the clip with captions, it was really quick and easy to do because I didn't need to deal with a whole movie. The hard part might be to come up with a clip to use though. I have a camcorder so making background video is really easy. Just go out and shoot a tree or the sky or some other boring thing.

It was funny to post my reply when I finished and see a similar "write on the disc" suggestion from you though. We must be on to something there...

fastfrank: that works well however it is important to note that people should be burning using the Image Recorder rather than an actual burner -- NVE has a way of crashing/closing/failing when using anything but the Image Recorder :)

I agree with Praetor, I don't think I have ever burned anything to a blank disc with NVE. I will normally just set it to burn to my hard drive and then use Burning ROM or some other program to do the actual burn with. I have not had any problems with the program creating little DVD-Video compliant clips and slideshows, etc.

Since I started using the newest version of NVE I have noticed it to be less buggy than previous versions. I wouldn't recommended using an earlier version to author with. There was always trouble loading in the .vobs. The new version seems to handle big movie .vobs without choking though.

Would I use it to author an entire commercial movie? Probably not. The only reason I would want to do that anyhow is to just add a menu or chapters. I like DVD-Lab for that. Most DVDs come with menus so if I really need them I'll usually just back-up the whole thing.

I have not used NVE's image recorder so I will give that a try the next time I need to use NVE.

Cheers,
Frank

Just a query then, how do in shrink reauthor, do I just drag the clip across to the top of the list and the main movie beneath it..
Thanks

That is correct. You should end up with the clip as the top title in the list and then the main title below that. Shrink compilations play from the top down.
