For those backing up PS2 DVDs from ISOs rather than directly from the DVD, what's the best software (and version), speed and media to use?
So far I've gone through about 10 DVD-Rs and have had no luck. It's an ISO of True Crime. The closest I've gotten has been with Alcohol 120% using the Image Burning Wizard, but what ends up happening is the game loads, and then it's in black and white, and it scrolls upward repeatedly, like the v-hold on old t.v.s, then finally it stops and the PS2 says it can't read the disc. Other tries have failed also. I've tried Nero, CloneDVD, GamesXCopy but those didn't even load at all.
I'm pretty sure my PS2 is version 7, my swapmagic discs are 3 for the cd and 2 for the dvd, if I'm not mistaken. Can someone tell me the best way to back up PS2 DVDs from ISOs to use with swapmagic, please? I've tried a bunch of tutorials, including some on here, but haven't gotten anywhere so far. I've even tried mounting the ISO onto a virtual drive and doing a DVD to DVD copy but that didn't work out either. Ahhh!
Are DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs the same? Because I have DVD-Rs, my writer is + and -, though.

Thanks for the tip. For some reason I can't get it working, though. Now, I at least do see the first few things clearly - there's no more v-hold problem, and I can now see in color, but right after the second screen shown (I think it's an Activision flash screen), the screen goes red, then green, and it stays there. I'm using the CDloader v7.
Another thing, For some reason I can't load the CD Loader v7 unless I use the swapmagic boot disc used for CD-ROM, rather than DVD-ROM. Then, after booting CD Loader v7 with the PS@ CD-ROM boot disc, I swap the CD Loader v7 for the PS2 DVD-ROM boot disc and then I get that problem that I mentioned above. At least I got one step further. Any other suggestions or help you can offer? I burned the back-up of True Crime on a memorex DVD-R with Alcohol 120%, using the image burning wizard, with the ISO. Is there another software I should use to burn the ISO?

cd loader does need swap cd, it goes in this order, swap cd>cd loader(press x)>eject and put swap dvd in>when it says ps2 dvd bottom left of screen press x, then the disc will stop, put game in(flip or slide) press x...
if its still not working you could try pressing x again when cd loader is in and choosing no pn from the sub menu...
hope you understood this...

Hmm, I used DVD Decrypter but I didn't get any results. However, I did chose the No PN on one try, and it let me get further, but the game was in black and white, plus it was scrolling upward like the v-hold thing I had mentioned. Apparently, loading as usual, with the CD Loader, without chosing No PN, makes the game load normal, in color without v-hold problem, but it gets stuck after the flash screen, and with the No PN option, it loads a lot more (I think it's playable), but it's got the v-hold problem like crazy and it's in black n white.
Hmm, what should I try now?
This just in: I connected my PS2 to my PC with my TV card, and I set it up with an S-video, then I made the S-video video standard PAL-BG, and I was able to see the game fine - in color and with no v-hold. Only thing is, I don't play PS2 on my PC... And I don't think I can change the standard on my TV. Hmm, so what might be the problem? Does this happen if the game you burn is PAL and you're playing it on NTSC? Or does it really matter?

im not sure but i thought swap discs allowed you to play anything so it shouldnt be an issue...if its a PAL game and your in europe your tv system should be PAL shouldnt it?? i dont know, maybe your not in europe.. i think also cdloader has a ntsc/pal option..i think its by pressing [square]..

its not NTSC you need to choose, its PAL if its a PAL format game, when cd loader boots up there is an option in the top left of the screen and if you press square you can change the region, (i think)... ill check with mine in a bit when i put the ps2 on...

Well, I have yet to try it on my TV, but I set my TV card to NTSC and then I selected PAL on the cd loader, but it seems like I get the same outcome. I'll try it on my TV later and see what happens.
So, this is how i did it:
swap cd, fliptop to cd loader, no pn, square for PAL, then eject to swap dvd, and then x, and then fliptop to true crime, then x.
