I looked all over for another post and couldn't find anything related to the problem I'm having. I'm sorry if I missed it.

I recieved a copy of a DVD that was made and was asked to burn a few copies. The DVD played fine in my machine, I copied the files to my hard drive and then burned the copies. I tested and they played fine. Now, the people that I've sent the copies to cannot play them. Not in their computer or DVD player. I'm new to all this DVD burning so I'm not even sure if you can burn a DVD on a computer and play it in your DVD player (TV). Can you? If so, what am I doing wrong?

My DVD player/writer is an internal drive in a new Dell computer. It's a DVD+R/RW Recorder. According to the Nero InfoTool that I read about and downloaded from your site, the read speed is 40X and the write speed is 32X. The program that I used to burn the DVD was Roxio. It came with the computer.

I'm nearly ready to hire someone to make these copies for me as they're needed before a conference in a week or so. Is it possible that this DVD player/writer cannot write DVD's for a TV DVD player and that the only computer that can read it is one that supports read features of DVD+R/RW and not just DVD-R/RW?

Thanks!

It was a series of photos which faded in and out with music in the background, so no, it wasn't a movie. I don't know much about DVD's and I just can't figure it out. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's Roxio and it came with my Dell computer (bought June 2004). I believe it may be v7.

Thank you for your diligence.

Here's my experience with Roxio ... Most discs I burned using Roxio will only work on pc's that have Roxio. I never got a disc burned by Roxio to run in any standalone players.

You can try and download a trail version of Nero 6, and use Nero's disc copy... that might work. I check on some other software :) good luck.

Flip, I have both Roxio EMC7 and Nero 6 Ultra. I don't have either Drag to Disc or InCD installed. Both programs coexist nicely for me, although, I do use the Nero the most, except when making slideshow DVD movies. For that, Roxio beats the snot out of Nero.

Any DVD that I make, with either of the programs, work in my other computer, which has neither program on it.

DVD's from both programs work on my Sony standalone DVD player.

I know that I must be one of the fortunates who have both programs working properly. If I had to choose between the 2, it would be a tough decision. I like different features from each.

summerf, if it was Roxio 7 that came with your computer, it is probably a lite version of 7 and does not have all the features of EMC7. If not the lite version, you are one lucky person. :) And, if you do have the full version, copy the DVD that you got, using Disc Copier.

GrandpaBW,

Yea ... I was using Roxio 6. And I couldn't play dvd's made my dvd builder on any pc's that didn't have Roxio. (then again it could have been me, and the way I compiled everything). Can't speak of Roxio 7, but have heard positive things about it. For me, I was more successful with Nero 6 over Roxio 6.

Flip, Roxio 6 Platinum totally roached the letter designations of my partitions. In fact, when I went into disk manager, none of them even had a designation. If I clicked on a shortcut on my desktop, I would get the infamous searchlight, looking for the program. I found out in a very short time, that I was not alone. I, luckily, had "Ghosted" my main partition, prior to the install of Roxio 6 and was able to get my system back.

I scrapped 6, and less than a month after I purchased it, EMC7 came out. I was able to get the upgrade for around $20. It was a world of difference, and it has worked great for me.

I do love Nero Recode for reauthoring my DVD movies, though. I wouldn't even look to Roxio for that. lol
