What is the difference between dvd-r and dvd+r?

i know that the dvd+r's read and write faster, but are there any other major differences between the two types of disks. i saw dvd-r packs at the store that were very inexpensive and was a great brand.thanks

Not anymore, some older players only read dvd-r (and older playstations), but that is rare now. From experience iv found dvd-r to be alot cheaper than +r

The main difference is who has "subscribed" to what type, the dvd forum went with -r, alot of other companies went with +r

I remember reading a "dvd demystified" faq, i think scubapete posts it, that might help
