And the fact that your 4200 would hold it back. OC it to 2.4GHz and then you'll be in a *bit* better standing.

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/Virtu...~114493,00.html

does this mean cheaper card for us all?

looks like i was right about the amd/ati wanting to build a platfrom to tackle centrino and that the aio chips would be for the lowend pcs.some intresting viewing.

GTR, yes the 7950GT is a standard length card.
I did OC my 4200+ but at the same time I did i picked up a software instability, that made my overclocks very confusing as to what was causing crashes, so i set it back to stock and haven't tried again yet. I think I'll make a clean OS on a second partition to test overclocks.

I already knew the R600 would only be GDDR4, I didn't expect anything else. I disregard the tom's hardware article, for the simple reason that my eyes (don't know about yours) aren't very good at determing between 100fps and 250fps. In no instance through those tests did I see a point where having a slower CPU will cause me to have a worse game experience. It's just numbers.
About the press release, if I was being a fanboy, I'd say it's because Intel want to see what AMD/ATi are up to... lol
Video interview is very interesting and confirms whati thought all along. Combined CPU&GPU chips are for more effective low end markets than high performance. Thermally it's just too difficult otherwise.

sam i think you might want to try google for any terms you dont understand before you just dissmiss things. daamit as i would of expected you to know is a p£$%take name for the amd and ati, and ufo and pele is the codenames they assigned to the types of ram on the cards for their prototype r600 gpus.

i can understand your reluctance to belive that they would degrade their new cards with somthing like gddr3, but if they need to compete with nvidia on price i think the pro cards will and up with it and the xt cards will get the gddr4 as they are the premium product.

now im not saying the inquirer is allways right, but there is no smoke with out fire, is there?

as for the better cpu giving better better performace, give it a go yourself, but under clock, drop your multi 1 and see if it has an effect on the demo in fear. my current +14% gives me an av of 47fps over the 41fps at stock with the same gpu settings. as for the article on toms i did say it was the thoery, not the figures that would be the same.

amd phones, pdas and archos style multi-media players in the future then.

LOL good call BigDK!
"processor speed" - care to go into more detail on that one? It depends what market you're in as to what CPU wins out.
In the performance market where dual cores exist, unless you're on a low budget where the X2 3800+ is king, the Core 2 Duo is the as-yet untouched champion. In the single core market for lower performance, I'm still of the opinion AMD are better, and it seems other companies have noticed. The majority of PC buyers get prebuilds, and low cost ones too. Household names for that market are Dell Dimension/Optiplex. Some of those now ship with AMD processors. I never thought I'd see the day. While Intel have made major strides with their high performance chips to take that crown from AMD, they seem to have left the single core market untouched since the P4 600, which AMD can still beat with their older chips.

Disclaimer: In my Opinion.

I'll be on the lookout for AMD's new processor though. I'm waiting to see if their new quad core is going to be any better than the XQ6700 or not.
AMD's true quad core CPU wont be out until June or July of 2007. Intel's main stream Quad Core's will be out in a month or 2.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out, beacause I dont want ass prints on my new door!

I'm about to find out in the next week or so. I'm putting together an Athlon 64 4000+ on a BioStar Tfource 6100 MB for my roomate to replace the 3.0/800 Prescott! From the experience of my last AMD customer build (a 3700+ San Diego), it should be way better than the Prescott and a lot less heat too!

Happy Computering,
theone

A 4000+ will waste a 3.0 Prescott. You have my word.

The 3700+ wasted it. Should be an excellent machine for it's purpose! I wanted him to go with a x2 3800+ but he didn't want to spend the extra $40!

Should be very quick! This will be my first TFource MB. I've used the cheaper GFource a couple of times, but for an extra $8 the TFource is worth it and it has better overclocking settings in the bios!

the msi kn9 diamond and asus crosshair are both good mobos for overclocking am2 chips from what iv seen, they are a bit pricey tho.

i have read on one of the roadmaps from intel that they plan to release a single core based on the c2d's architeture q2 07.

That's a great little board. I just built a SFF for my folks using it and it's a keeper. I just built a SFF for myself using an Abit NF-M2 nView and it's a stellar board - oodles of features.
