Sony DW-U14A OEM not writing DVD

I've installed the Sony DW-U14A DVD onto an XP system and am trying to write to DVD using Nero 6. The operation starts OK, fails to buffer up all files as the cache is not large enough (which should be OK), then, at the begin to burn stage, Nero hangs - I can't open the DVD drive and I have to re-boot the computer.

Curiously, I can write CDs with no problems, and previously I have managed to write to one DVD.

Do I need special XP drivers ? If so, where can I get them ? I can only find entries to do with firmware on the site and I was thinking this would be XP specific drivers.
