Ok, before everyone jumps all over me, I did use the search feature, i have read the guides but this peice of information still eludes me. Maybe i missed it somewhere but i have looked a bit.
my stuff:
dvd decrypter (newest)
nec 2510a (with 2.4x +R DL burning)
my question:
-How common are the larger than 1 dvd games, my first rip was of Xenosaga, when it was done the .iso file was like 7.8 gb even tho the disk in the drive read like 3.9 gb. whats the deal with that?
-also, i have not read about copying larger games etc (dummy files, etc)... but, is it common to get errors saying that the iso is too big, and asking if u want dvd decrypter to try anyway, or is this the indicator that i need to split it into 2 dvds
Also, i appreciate the dedication of some of the members in this forum. I post on many other forums about different topics and the newbie posting without reading the rules or searching gets old. The problem seems especially bad here and i thank all of those with knowledge for sticking with it despite the annoyances. :D
There are only a few dvd-9 games (i think i read 11 somewhere). Also, maybe dvd decrypter does not support duel layer recording or ripping (of games, same thing happened to me with xenosaga)?
well im not trying to record to Dual Layer, just saying thats the burner i have. Anyway, yea xenosaga had a ton of movies so i guess it makes sense that it was bigger.
but, in general... are the isos that DVD Decrypter makes usually over 4.7 gb? or is that just the DVD-9 games that are bigger?
I think DVD Decrypter always makes the same size as the dvd you try to decrypt, and yes, dvd 9 size is a lot bigger than dvd 5. If you try to make a copy of a dvd movie youy can use DVD Shrink to make the size smaller, but I don't know if it will work for ps2 game?? Any body ever try that??
The disk is being reported as 3.9g because it is only reading the first layer. DVD Decrypter will back up both layers, that is why the .iso file was so big. I do not own Xenosaga, but it is one that needs split into 2 DVDRs to back up. I think there is a tutorial somewhere on doing it, www.ps2ownz.com or www.swapmagicfix.com I believe.
DVD Shrink will NOT work in this case. It is for rencoding video at a lower rate to get them to fit on a DVD5, but PS2 DVDs are data not video.
