Hey I am new to this whole thing I have a DVD burner and I want to copy some rented PS2 games. Do I need a modchip to play them after they are burnt? And also what software do I need to succesfully burn a copy?

any info would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

I don't think you need a mod chip to play them. However you do need SwapMagic (which you purchase, search in google, I've seen it bundled with a slidecard) Which is the second item you need. its a a piece of plastic that you make or purchased with SM. it allows you to unlock the cd tray and eject it without pressing the eject button. Not all games work with SM, however there is fixes for those at http://www.swapmagicfix.com
There is also a fliptop (like the psx console) that you can buy which allows you to open and swap discs, without having to use the slidecard(plastic tool)

To Copy them download DVD Decrypter, its a free program made to copy cd's and dvd's of all kinda. When you get it and copy. Go up to mode and select ISO-->Read to copy and ISO-->Write to burn. Burn at 1x or slowest possible. Default settings for DVD Decrypter is all I use. Meaning I don't touch anyother settings.

There are modchips out there. I as lucky and had it bought and installed by a friend for $50 total. There is also no solder modchips as well which you could put in. however you loseyour warranty and so on. Didn't bother me much cuz its probably only a year anyways. seems to me that it is easier to get SwapMagaic(purchase), Fliptop(purchase) and cdloader(free download). But like I said you can do without the fliptop. I don't have it, its a little harder to swap but you only have to do it when you run the game, after that its hours of play. Depends on your financial situation. The fliptop is cool and I will probably buy one someday, just for the look and ease. But not needed.
