I'm thinking about getting a Swap Magic DVD boot disk w/ the PS2 Fliptop cover. Just wanted to know if anyone has had luck with Swap Magic/Fliptop combo?? How well does this work? I know it doesnt work with all PS2 games. Do you have to patch every game you backup?? I dont really want to open up my PS2 and mess with the board so the fliptop looks like a good alternative. Any feedback on this would be great....

Swap Magic and the Flip Top is pretty much a modchip except you need to swap discs. Some games may not boot or you will need a CDloader/Dvdloader. It kinda depends on your PS2 version.

I had 2 Modded PS2's (39001 Magic3,50001 Messiah Pro) both have crapped out after a year. I switched to Swap Magic with the Flip-Top and only had problems loading two games, but with DVDloader they load up fine... Once you pay over $300.00 each for a pre-modded system,(and not knowing what they put in) you'll find that Swap Magic is a cheaper and safer bet !!

Yeah. If someone screws up, your machine can go down the drain. My friend modded his PS1, and it broke in a few years. Swap Magic is safer and a lot cheaper.

I strongly advise against the mod chip, I had two playstation 2 consoles that crapped out on me. One system with a duo2 chip fried the Motherboard 10 minutes after being installed and the other console died after a month with a magic chip. Since I don?t feel like throwing anymore ps2?s in the trash I bought a used console off gamestop.com along with a gameshark 2. I?ll try the gameshark loading method and see what happens, friends of mine had good results with gameshark . If you decide to use the chip be warned it is very hard to install these things and requires a very steady hand and there?s no margin for error if you bridge a soldering point or solder a wire in the wrong place you can kiss your ps2 good bye, Even for a pro it?s hard work.
Later.

go with swapmagic and fliptop, sure some games need the cdloader or dvd loader, but an extra disc swap isnt going to hurt your hands right? plus like many of us fliptop-swapmagic user have said, its alot more safer than modchips!!

i would say go with mod chip. reason is i have never had a backup not work. ncaa 2005 and splinter cell have no problems, look at the forums and youll see these games are giving everyone else fits. i do agree however that my playstation will have a lower life span but my original playstation only lasted a year and a half with no mods. if you want it to be easy get the mod chip.

I rather not be able to play the game or use Cdloader instead of shorting the life span of the PS2.

no. im juss saying that its better to do a bit more swapping or not be able to play than to hurt the playstation 2.

The whole idea of swap magic is to keep the warranty intact on your console,so you can cover it for breakdown insurance when you purchase one,for say five years.I bought a swap magic kit from http://www.swapmagic.me.uk and after using my ps2 for about a year,I spilt liquid onto it and it popped the console.I was able to replace it with a brand new one in satin silver for free.P.s If you are going to buy a console I would suggest buying one already chipped / upgraded from http://www.slidecardkit.co.uk as it plays almost everything you throw at it..
