Here is a silly problem for all you boys and girls.

I have been making backups of games for quite some time now. I particularly like making backups of sports games, which means I would inevitibly make backups of EA Sports games.

In past years I have backed up Maddens and NHLs, and they worked fine. When NHL 2004 came about, I attempted to burn it and found that it did not work correctly. The average game would take about 4 minutes to load, and then when the game loaded, the sound would stutter and the cut-scenes would take minutes to load as well.

I tried burning the game at 1x, and i tried defragmenting and different media, nothing would work. I gave up.

I tried to backup Fight Night, and the same problem occured. At this point I was beginning to think that the problem was with my ps2 or maybe my burner.

Recently, I backed up NCAA Football 2005, and believe it or not, the same problems reappeared.

Now before you assume a bad burn or media, please note that previous EA sports games (Madden 2004, NCAA Football 2004) were burned using identical methods, as well as other ps2 games, and they worked perfectly.

The problem is with EA sports games released after NHL 2004.

The fact that other games function perfectly rules out bad media, burning method, and the console itself as roots of the problem. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I have just burned a backup of NCAA Football 2005. My ps2 hates my favorite games, which would be EA Sports games, I get the rattling ps2 only from EA Sports games, so I decided to try backing up NCAA before I resort to losing my ps2 for a month for the second time sending it to sony to be fixed. So far my NCAA backup has worked, but after a while I get the rattling and freezing...Is it just me or does EA hate anyone elses ps2s?.....But other than this happening once in a while, im suprised to say the backup works better and loads and saves faster.

Perhaps I will try Nero instead of DVD Decrypter. But the fact that older EA sports game work perfectly pretty much rules out that possibility.

Sk8er, I was a bit confused by your postings. You said in the first post that your backup of NCAA Football 2005 worked better than the original, but in your subsequent posting, you said that your backup of NCAA Football 2005 doesn't work.

Can you clarify that, and also mention which type of media you are using? Thanks. Also if anyone has a solution that would be fantastic.

I burned the backup with decrypter, and i got a green to blue transition when i used the dvd swap magic disk. Then the game worked better than the original for about 30 minutes. I played one 5 minute quarter game, and as the players where leaving the field and the end of game mewnu was going to come up it started to freeze and my ps2 started grinding identically as the way it grinds when i play all my normal original copy EA games......I don't know whether my ps2 hates EA games, or whether the burn was bad......But in my opinion i believe i successfully backed up the game....im sure if u used my copy it would work fine. I thought maybe if i use Nero it will fix my problem but i have had a long list of EA problems ( about 10 games)....but it is possible to backup this game

I see, thanks for the clarification.

The originals work better for me, so that is not a problem. Unfortunately, I get the grinding and skipping as soon as I start the game.

When I start to think that EA Sports may be instating some sort of protection scheme, I realize that so many people have sucessfully backed up this game, so the problem should logically not exist.

The fact the other people have had sucessful backups shows that EA is not behind this.

The fact that only newer EA sports games display this problem for me means that the problem does not lie with my hardware or media, or my burning method, because those are proven to work.

So what's left?

I can't help you much there i guess....I need some help because the newer the EA game, the more problems i have. My ps2 has scatched EA games, froze in beginning forever, grinds and disconnects me from online games....i dunno

So be it, thanks for responding.

I will take everyone else's collective silence as a sign that this cannot be fixed.

A resolution has presented itself. Per suggestion via sk8erfx, I decided to try a different piece of software to backup NCAA Football 2005.

On my first attempt, I used RecordNow MAX, and it turned out a smooth backup. It is very playable, and I am yet to encounter any problems after about 3 games.

The other changes I made include turning off all un-essential services in the service manager, closing all unessential programs residing in memory, disabling my internet connection, and using test before burn.

I am not sure if any of the changes I mentioned other than using RecordNOW made a difference, but I mentioned them anyway, just in case they did.

Hey I am getting a new ps2. So do you think its my ps2 causing the game to freeze after a while, because it has problems with EA games, or is it my burn? If it is my burn Ill try that program you were talking about. thanks

Well if other backups work flawlessly, I would assume the problem is a result of the burn rather than the playstation.

The first thing I would do is try to burn your problematic backups with that program.

However if you continue to have problems with EA Sports games as well as others, even with varying degree, I would try to clean the laser lens.

If all else fails, a new ps2 may be necessary to fix the problem.

I am by no means an expert, nor am I as qualified as some of the other regulars here to advise you with this problem. Perhaps you could get a second opinion. In any case, good luck in your efforts.

I've tried all of the suggestions above and I have so far made 3 coasters. I have successfully backed up Fight Night, NFL Street and every other EA game you can think of but this NCAA 2005 is a real pain in the ass..
