Okay, I have read every post on this forum about streaming gamecube games and several other articles on the web yadda yadda yadda. I have been successfully streaming and backing up etc for about 6 months now. Its been great, I just have a few unanswered questions and have finally decided to post. I'll list them in order of importance to me.
1. I love the capability of playing nes games and n64 and have been enjoying it immensly, however, I would love to be able to play my snes roms. Is this possible and how? It would seem that if we can play nes and n64, why not then the middle console of snes?
2. I have hear rumors about some sort of patch for speeding up the streeming to reduce choppines and have even found a link to download that is down. Is this true and where can I find it?
3. How do I tweak Cubesoft Phoenix Loader for optimal performance? Hell I guess all of the loaders have pretty much the same tweaks I just have never found any guide explaining really what any of them do? ex. delay, frequency, cache blah blah blah what the hell are these settings and whats the best way to set them?
1. Yes, It would be just as easy to make an SNES emulator as to make an N64 one. But the reason the N64 was done first is because Nintendo had already developed their own N64 emulator to be used on the Gamecube to run such titles as Zelda: Master Quest which was included with a limited number of Zelda: Wind Waker games. Some expert coders somehow were able to interpret the Gamecube code used to run the emulator and modified it to work with other popular N64 games. This way they didn't have to write the whole thing from scratch as that would have taken A LOT longer.
So, until Nintendo makes a SNES emulator first, or someone spends their whole life trying to interpret all the code used on Gamecube, we'll just have to wait for a little while.
2. You're probably referring to the fact that Gamecube games can only be streamed at 10 mbps, even though it is capable of 27mbps (that's as fast as the port the Broadband Adaptor is plugged into can go) Some hackers/coders/whatever you want to call them have reportadly made some small steps in getting games to run at 27mbps which would most likely eliminate all/most hiccups that almost all games suffer. As of now, no one has released a working fix to run at this speed to my knowledge.
3. I haven't messed around with it much because the default settings worked well for me. I'm not positive on what the terms mean since there's not help database included with Phoenix, but I can make a good guess.
Delay - How long the program waits from the time it receives the request for the packet from the Gamecube to when it sends it out.
Frequency - How often it sends the packets.
Cache - How much stuff it's already sent it keeps handy in case it's requested again by the GC.
Hope that helps you out a bit! Again, the terms are just a wild guess, so you'll just have to try it out yourself. --Joe
Well Tanooki as you don't seem to know I'm not as stupid as you might think, I have had the collectors edition for some time now. I received it for free for reserving windwaker and I understand how emulation works you tard. I can play every nintendo emulator up to the gamecube on my xbox and several other emulators, I simply asked if anybody had written an emulator or perhaps some sort of n64 container for snes roms (as they have done on the gameboy advance if you have a flash card. You can wrap nes games in a gba container and upload it as a gba game) for the gamecube yet. I'm not a noob so don't pretend to have all the answers as you didn't answer a singe one of mine
