Have you looked in your system/device manager to make sure your sound card doesnt have an problems ??

from there have you checked you speakers and their set up ?

Do you have an old PC to go along with that SB16?
Any computer 300MHz or faster should be able to play MP3 and other CPU-intensive compressed audio formats.
With an old ISA soundboard you may require a 400MHz.
I have an old Pentium Pro @ 233Mhz with AWE64 ISA soundboard, and it plays Audio no sweat.
(It sure won't play DivX video, though!)
What is your PC, Persy?

Hmmmm... sounds like The Deadly MP3 Virus, LoL :-(
Dunno Persy, see if you can grab a $20 soundboard that uses a PCI slot, if you can find one.
They used to be common but lately, with integrated mobo audio, the only PCI soundboards offered tend to be higher-end.
Something like SoundBlaster Audigy ES (An Audigy w/o Firewire) for $50 is available, nice board.
But your problem might be drivers or ? Is your system in tip-top shape?
Perhaps your PC is rotten, needs an enema.
When did you last re-install your OS... ?
