darier, I have been a big fan of Mitsibishi video for about 15 years now. I still have my first 27" I bought in 1989 and it still plays perfect.
Over the years I have upgraded sticking with Mitsibishi and ALL still work. The quality is unparalled or at least as good as the best I've ever seen.
I don't know what you want to spend, but the down side is they "ain't" cheap. I currently have the 2nd largest digital HDTV they make, i believe at 56" or 57" for 4500.00 , (can't remember exactly lol), they do have another at 65" for 6500.00.
Man this thing has got it all, pips in about 10 different modes, 4 composite inputs(3 for video alone and 2 for audio), 3 s-video inputs(1 for video using s plug and 2 for audio), 3 normal inputs( one normal jack for video and 2 for audio) and one quick hook up on the front for video cams, digital cameras, games, etc. This makes it handy for computer links(monlink), dvd players, surround sound stereo, playstations, you know, all the stuff that goes with home theater.
It has 3 more cable inputs + a DTV input for cable HD boxes, which makes it nice for all those pips(split screen 3 screen 6 screen 9 screen etc.) Another good feature, it has 7 viewing screens from full to widescreen, expand, letterbox, etc, to fit what you're watching so figures don't appear thin or fat because your source does not match your TV screen.
I don't know how big you wanna go but they have smaller affordable sets for around 500.00 starting at 27" . Do you want HD?, The thing is, they last forever. Mitsibishi makes their own stuff and has their own parts. I have NEVER seen a more dependable TV. Besides the 3 I own, my father, sister, 2 brothers, all have Mitsibishi TV's and they all still work. None to my knowledge have ever been worked on or fixed.
Again, Quality is excellent, pic is extremely sharp!almost as tho someone took a black ink pen and drew around the outlines of people in the screen. Also unlike many projections, you can watch it from the side with no change in your viewing. This is because it is a picture tube digital projection TV. Picture can be adjusted auto depending on rooms lighting conditions.
Whatever you decide on do not buy one of the old time rear projection televisions. You are better off to get a smaller screen with the new technology than a 60" TV that will be obsolete in a few short years. You know the kind,(RCA, Zenith, etc.), you can find deals on these for 1,000.00 to 1,500.00 for a 50" to 60" screen.
There are sales, I got mine on a special for 3,000.00, they put the ad in the paper on Sunday and were sold out on Monday! lol They don't advertise and they aren't everywhere. Circuit City doesn't have them anymore because they put them on sale without Mitsibishi's consent and their contract was revoked.
Believe it or not, I got mine at Sears. In latter years Sears has started to emerge as a pretty good retailer for quality electronics.
Anyhow, hope this helps and good luck however you decide.
GO VOLS !
