I think there?s a hidden newbie cult uprising here at AD. All the signs are there. You can sense their presence as they stealthily hide among us. Occasionally you catch a glimpse, of them hiding, lurking quietly in the shadows of our threads, waiting for the moment to cause unparalleled disharmony among the unsuspecting members of the forum. Be watchful fellow members because you can never know from whence they?ll strike. How will we ever deal with their growing numbers?

Well the forums are really for the newbies, they are the ones with question-questions-questions.
If they are too vague or there is a guide right there, this is pointed out. Click click, done.
It's sort of how things are done around here, and the Seniors can keep in touch and banter about off-topic stuff in Safety Valve (hell, if it's in here then it's not off-topic!)
I started some threads about more advanced stuff, questions I ask myself about different LAME versions' Q settings, theory of cinematographic aspect ratios, and nobody touched them. (boring I guess) ;-)
But the point is, without newbies it would be dead around here... wouldn't it?
And don't forget, guys like Xian would be newbies if they had never posted here before. Right? (LoL)
The most cantankerous newbies are kewl, they are not shy and their irreverence is great.
Of course, if they wanna debate stuff and make claims, then they better bring the real goods...
Ciao (as in Mein)

Sophocles, they have us in numbers and are probably in better shape, BUT we have one thing in our favor, superior FIREPOWER!!!

We'll just form a line of defense, ready our software,be on guard at all times for surprise attacks, and above all, keep communications open 24/7.

Hey I got a truly inspirational thought, I'll take the night shift!!! heh heh heh

PS-conc, we'll throw the dance! lol

Hi again BigO.
I had to staple my grand children to their beds to keep them there.

I've just finished copying Gladiator to a Ritek-RW as a test with Nero Recode 2, and dumped all the extra scenes, directors comments, etc.
It appears to have a for crisper picture than shrink. I always use the advanced analysis for the second pass as it recommends, and use deep analysis when using dvd shrink.

Do you or anyone know if shrink does a full second pass with it's deep analysis as Recode 2 does, or one pass and a second only on high motion scenes? I've checked on most of the forum guides, but have not found the answer.
I must say I'm rather impressed with Recode 2, and will use it to rip and edit before switching to RB/CCE to rebuild.

I like to dump all the extras so when I fall asleep in front of the TV at night, the movie finishes and then turns itself off rather than returning back to the menu and play over and over. I can't tell you how many times I've got up in the morning to find TV and DVD on, menu music playing, and my wife standing over me with a loaded gun. Hahahaha..........
It also means far less compression too!
Thanks once again in advance.

I'm not sure which thread that would be either. There's more CCE questions popping up all the time. When I finally get my DVD Remake guides finished I think I'll do a guide for encoding DVD compliant files with CCE Basic (probably after I update my AviSynth and DVD Rebuilder guides).

Vurbal

You know what I'm talking about, the titles are just too long to type. But if I have to post them:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/88747

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/92614

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/90309

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/94346

CCE stands for Cinema Craft Encoder, and Vurbal wrote the guide for AfterDawn. Using DVDrebuilder along with Cinema Craft Encoder, along with avisynth, and DVD2AV is far superior to other 1 click transcoders.

If you want to get the best possible back up of a DVD you own then this is it. Sounds tough doesn't it? Not if you read Vurbals guide which you can get here.

With the decreasing cost of hardware, and the quality of associated sofwware, this is bound to be the case. It is something that AD must be delighted with.

Perhaps a majority of, well a few, newbies are browsing the forum, and reading, to gain experience before asking questions.

Strong home brew and/or medium strength tranquilisers are a method I can wholy endorse.
