I am just getting started with backing up my PS2 games and have some questions. I have a version 4 PS2.

I have a Lite-On 411S DVD-RW Drive that can write
DVD-/+R/W and I wanted to know if it made any difference what media I buy. Should I use +R(W) or -R(W)? Reading some other posts on this board it seems that Memorex is the preferred manufacturer. They seem to cost a little more, but I guess it's worth it if it means less coasters.

As for the console mod, I have the following options: Have the system professionally chipped by a store in my area for 60$, buy a No Solder mod chip + swap disc for around 35$, or buy a Slide Card + Swap Disc at about the same price as the no-solder chip. What method would be best? I cannot solder so buying my own chip is out of the question.

I also need some clarification on some things. I know that a DVD5 disc can have as much as 4.7GB of data, but I know that some games are larger, so called DVD9 discs. Can backups of such games be made? How is this done, and can it be done by the average user?

ok here's some answers
1.personaly would recomend the use of dvd-r discs as some v4 ps2's have problems reading dvd+r also memorex are ok but i would recomend the use of ritek g04 dvd-r discs
2.would recomend the use of the flip top with the swapmagic discs(but some games require 4 swaps to load)so consider the no swap mod
3.there isn't many DVD-9 based games at the moment heres a list http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/84252 but there maybe more in the future, you can split these games onto multiple DVD-5 discs this site has instructions on how http://www.swapmagicfix.com/
